Hello Monday – Long weekend! But good

Honestly, Friday feels like a lifetime ago! And I guess that’s good; when you stay busy it feels like you packed a lot in.

Anyway, I left a wee bit early Friday so I could get Ash from work, get home to change, and then head back out. As noted in previous posts, we were headed to The Huntsman, a fancier steak place in town.Well, not just steaks. They’re known for wild game and other interesting creations. We had 5 pm reservations, which worked well. We got there slightly before 5 but there were already people waiting! Though looks like they were headed to the bar area. We were seated quickly and the service, as expected, was great. Since we had a gift card, we ordered three steaks: the bison ribeye, NY strip, and a 6 oz Wagyu Denver steak. We split those, along with the chili crush asparagus and garlic mashes. Together with some really good bread and garlic butter, I was stuffed! But it was an amazing meal. Nevermind my husband mid-sentence (or bite, not sure)

We headed home to do a little bowling, knowing we wouldn’t be around much during Saturday and Sunday. I believe we started watching a kid movie with my daughter but after the long week I’d had, I was exhausted!

Saturday I got up around 6 and did some cleaning and got laundry going, as well as caught up on some grading I didn’t get done during the week. Hit the store and made hamburgers for lunch. We were planning to leave by about 2 and ended up heading out a little early. We were on our way to Gainesville to partake in one of their homebrew club’s annual events: a midnight brew. To be fair, it started at 6. Since we were early, we gave a brewery on the outskirts of town a second chance. It was still not good, but the food truck outside had a fun condiment station!

The beer was pretty mid so we decide to just go to Cypress and Grove, the brewery we like best there. Ahh, good beer! Once done, we checked into our airbnb, which, fortuitously, was right across from the house where the event was being held! When Ash said he found a close one, we didn’t know it was THAT close! We got there a little after 6 and only stayed until about 10:15. I heard most folks didn’t close up until nearly 12, which I heard was early compared to some years! I think they had maybe 12-13 people actively brewing, then a lot of others there to observe and bottle share.

We had a fun time, though I semi-regret drinking all those meads. Definitely went home and passed out! I mean, fell right to sleep. Slept pretty well; the airbnb was nice and quiet. We both woke around 6, unable to go back to sleep. Decided to go out for breakfast; the 43rd Street Deli and Breakfast place was really good! Funny enough, we both still felt unreasonably tired when we got home so we went back to sleep – which felt sort of lazy but definitely needed. We set an alarm for 10, showered, then got out by 11.

The Sunday planned event wasn’t until 2 so we wasted a little time at Total Wine, as well as at the homebrew shop. At 2, we went back to where the previous night’s event was held to taste peoples’ porters. They do theirs kind of like our in-club competitions insomuch as everyone made the exact same recipe, we taste, then try to determine both the top 3 faves and guess which one was your own. Apparently no one ever guesses that right!

It was fun and I am glad we went, but when we got home slightly before 6, I felt like I didn’t get to relax at all! I slept pretty well last night but was not ready for today. Ash is out of town a couple days for work, which is stressful but also, nice? I always say it is good to worry about one less person in these instances. I’ll make something the kids like and I’l eat keto and maybe – just maybe! – watch something only I’d like. I don’t know what that is yet but hey, we’ll see!

  1. Worrying about one less person… I can relate. Your weekend sounds nice but busy. That condiment station on the food truck is cute- I appreciate creative ways to display/dispense food. The steak place sounds really good- how wonderful to have a great meal out to start the weekend :). Have a wonderful Monday!

  2. Sounds like a fun busy weekend. We finally saw the sun and it was wonderful. My hubs always traveled a lot for work which has it’s pros and cons. Enjoy your week!
