A to Z Challenge – Z is for Zombie Dust

As noted in the sign up post, I decided to highlight beers I have liked. I know this sounds very surface but a lot of my personal life/hobbies revolve around it. We are homebrewers and I have – as of today – 4,607 unique check-ins on the app, Untappd. I keep track of all beers and rate them there. So, without further ado – Z!

I can’t believe we made it. Looking back on Aprils past, I do feel like they pass quickly, especially when writing all these posts.

Anywho, I am picking Zombie Dust by 3 Floyds because it is often thought of as one of the premier and prime examples of a Pale Ale. I first had it in 2022 after getting some cans in Ohio. It’s a midwest brewery so that made sense. We once made a Zombie Dust clone with a friend who wanted it, and it was… not necessarily a disaster but it was a lot. This is “intensely hopped” according to the brewer and they ain’t wrong. Lots of hop additions as well as a dry hop step. I remember being a little lazy about using a hop spider during the boil so later on, once it was in the keg, bits of hop were getting stuck in the keg post, thereby making pouring it VERY SLOW. Luckily, I wasn’t serving it at the time so a co-member of the club was stuck taking it apart and cleaning it out. Man, that seems like a long time ago! But it was probably early ’24.

Anyway, I hope someone out there has enjoy my beer retrospective. I thought it was best to write what I know and well, I know beer!
