1. What’s something you never seem to have enough time for?
Hmm, seems like even though I think about it often, I don’t have time – or rather, don’t make time – for stretching. But I know the importance of it and this newest knee pain is evidence of me needing to rearrange time to do it.
2. If you could turn back time and relive just one day in your life, which day would you choose and why?
This is a very hard one! I don’t think there’s any one day I’d want to relive though I am sure I have had really great days where living it again would be desirable. I did find a post that explained a few good weekend days a long time ago so any of these day would be great! https://incognitusscriptor.com/2013/04/15/mmmm-bi-polar-weekend/
3. Something you enjoy making that takes a long time to prepare/cook?
Hmm, I’m going to say Thanksgiving dinner. We are a little stuck in our ways so the meal ALWAYS consists of: sage butter turkey, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and cornbread. But it’s a work-intense meal since I make the sage butter the day before, then stuff that under the skin and bake. With about an hour and a half left, I’ll combine the cornbread ingredients then get the roux going for mac. Those both bake while the turkey sits and I boil the potatoes. It’s totally worth it though.
4. A time recently where you needed/gave yourself a ‘time out’? How do you do that?
I think it was earlier last week; I was in kind of a bad mood and my throat was bothering me so I decided to take a bath at like, 6:30 pm. It was actually really restful. But I usually take a time out by reading in the tub or running.
5. Something you’ve done recently that you’d describe as a ‘good time’?
Wow, we have actually done a lot of fun stuff lately, if we’re being honest. The last time I really thought of, though, was when we met a couple friends up at the brewery then we filled a growler and took it to our friend, Brian’s, house and hung out there. The reason I felt like it was good is because it was spontaneous. And I am NOT the kind of person who does spur of the moment stuff often but I highly enjoyed it.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Tuesday – today is weird! Kids went back to school after Spring Break – THANKFULLY – but my day didn’t start as it typically does. Sure, the kids left at their normal times but Ash and I had planned to meet my parents for breakfast at 9. A. we don’t ever eat breakfast anymore and B. I normally eat AFTER doing all my online school stuff. So I am trying to get into the groove now. It’s 10, a gorgeous day, and I think I will find my stride here soon. I plan to grade papers then my reward is getting out and going to the store. Funny that I find that a reward but when you work from home, going out is nice indeed. I am working on so much right now and trying to keep in good spirits; I feel like all I do is grind but then, if there’s downtime, I feel like I am slacking off. It’s a strange dichotomy and one that, perhaps. I just need to come to terms with.
Wednesday – Ever so thankful that I am not in the same fog as yesterday. Then again, I haven’t eaten in 24 hours so I am focused. I know that sounds counterintuitive but it’s not. In the afternoon yesterday, I took a walk and highly enjoyed it then puttered around for a while in the evening. Elliot was outside working out, my daughter went to a friend’s and my husband took our middle to soccer so it was just… quiet. I find I don’t like that but also, if I were to fix that by playing music, I have also discovered about myself that when I feel stressed or down, music doesn’t hit the same. Almost like I have to feel happy and stable to enjoy it. Weird, right? Anyway, mid-term grades are due today for one of my jobs so I am working to get things in order then I have a bunch more to do. It’s an ugly rainy day so what better time to stay indoors?
It’s cloudy and dark here today too, though it’s not raining right now. So I came to church with hubby and spending time there. Otherwise, I’d probably spend too much time napping and watching TV. Sometimes I just need to go somewhere so I’ll move more. Hope you have a great day and get all your work done and find some happy free time too.
This sentence resonated with me ” I feel like all I do is grind but then, if there’s downtime, I feel like I am slacking off.” I actually feel like I have two speeds – full steam ahead or totally crashed. When I crash, I feel like I’m slacking off. I love Thanksgiving FOR THE FOOD. It is one of my favorite meals of the year. I did chuckle when I read your menu because don’t y’all eat low carb most of the time? On Thanksgiving, you get ALL the carbs — and the yummy ones!
Yeah for that meal, we definitely go all-out carbs!
We’re coming to your house for Thanksgiving. Real mac & cheese? Boy howdy!
Oh yeah, it is good! My secret? Nutmeg and cayenne.
I think women especially can feel like down time is wasting time, because there are always a million things we should be doing. Prioritizing rest (and for me especially, prioritizing quiet) is necessary. I’m much more productive if I have breaks from this noisy world we’re all living in. I love a homemade mac and cheese. I have a houseful coming next weekend and am making. a big pan to share. Have a great day!
I definitely feel like I’m wasting time if I’m resting! Your Thanksgiving meal sounds great. I should make time to stretch too.
I have experienced a clear mind when fasting. Thanksgiving meal is worth the time and yours sounds very good. Glad you recovered from your day that seemed off. I’m late in visiting hodgepodgers. Thank you for your visit and comment. Have a great weekend.
Ditto on the stretching. Uggh I’m so bad at this even though I know how good it is for me.
