1. Something you’ve seen recently that’s ‘cuter than a June bug’?
Hmm, tough to say. I’m not typically a person who sees stuff and exclaims, “Oh that’s so cute!” I guess the only think I can come up with is this instagram account a follow for Mork Skywalker, a little deformed dog who was recued from the Chinese meat trade. Check him out!

2. Tell us something about where you were and what you were doing in June of 1988? If you weren’t born yet, June of 1998. Or if that doesn’t work, June of 2008.
June 1988 I was nine, probably on Summer break, living in Hollywood, Florida. Chances are I was playing outside on a Slip ‘n Slide, having backyard picnics with my mom on a green and yellow blanket, playing with neighborhood friends, and biking to the Blockbuster up the road. I have very fond memories of that time in my life; it was so carefree and fun. Plus, the TV viewing was great.
3. A place in your home or outdoor space where you feel ‘snug as a bug in a rug’?
Hmm, the obvious answer is bed but I slept wrong the other day and pinched a nerve in my hip so now I have this area on my right side that, even if I just accidentally brush the skin, it feels like a burning electrical feeling. So my cozy spot is my lounge chair in the living room. Preferably with a blanket.
4. June is National Fresh Fruits and Vegetable Month. Do you normally get your 4-5 servings each day? What’s a favorite summer dish you make/serve/like to be served-ha! made with one of your favorite summer fruits. A favorite summer dish made with a favorite summer veg? How do you feel about cooking in the summer months?
Oh yes, because I am on keto now so cruciferous veggies play a major role in my life! We oftentimes have a meat and veggies as our one meal in the day. And mostly berries; the other fruits have too much fructose and are actually harmful. We always think fruits are “good for you” but they can do just as much damage. My fave summer fruit is peaches but they are on the no-go list; I’ll have to eat them sparingly. I can’t think of a particular dish I make but no, cooking anything that turns the oven on in the summer is sucky. I do it but I don’t like it.
5. Do you have a summer reading list? If so share a title or two we can add to our own.
No, but I finished Tales from the Beach House and recommend it.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
For some reason, I had the idea that, after this week, I had one entire week in between this one and the one where we leave for our Texas trip. But that’s not true. Next Friday is when we drive to my parents’ and the next day, the four of us leave my kids with my sister and head to Houston. As noted, we spend a night in Houston, then the next day and night is Austin. We then go onto Fredericksburg for a night, then two days/nights in San Antonio. On the way back, we hit New Orleans. I had this weird feeling like I had more time but it is upon us! (I know that for that entire week of vacation, I won’t be making much of an effort to keep to keto. I will probably still fast, as in, never eating breakfast, but it will be interesting to see how it all goes. I am not over thinking it for a reason; I don’t want to stress. There’s really no reason. Plus, I want to train myself to be a little more easy-going. And Summer is a time for easy-going!) I guess this issue of not knowing the timeline stemmed from the aforementioned adrift feeling I have had. It is definitely because we’re at the end of the school year for the kids. My younger have 2 more half days and Ell, just one. He turns in his laptop today and his two courses tomorrow are just watching movies so I’m letting him skip. He already knows that he has to pull weeds and go to the store with me, however, before he sits on his xbox!
The last two weekends I was hoping to be easy-going and not have plans but alas, we have and do have lots of them. This past Saturday, the boys went to a birthday party and then we went to a pool party with friends up the road. Koda spent the night there and the next day, she went to the pool with a friend. Isaac went to church with a friend. Then this coming weekend, Koda has another birthday to attend, we have a brew club party, then we go to the beach with our friends Sunday. Oh, don’t forget about Isaac’s 5th grade luau tomorrow night and a girl scout activity Thursday. Can I catch a break?
Oh boy, I hate when I’m off on my dates. Yikes. Hopefully it all goes well and you’re able to really enjoy the next week of prep. That dog is so cute!!!
Thanks! And yeah, he’s adorable.
It’s hard to eat light in New Orleans!! Sounds like a great trip though…enjoy your travels. Hope your hip feels better too.
Thanks! And yeah, I’ll just eat and deal with the fall out later!
Hoping once you leave for your trip that you will leave everything else behind and just enjoy the time away. Blessings abundant!
We are leaving in the morning for a five day trip to Iowa! Things really haven’t slowed down even as we pack and clean. I think that’s just life, right?
