So I was cleaning up the area of my kitchen where everything seems to accumulate: mail, coupons, school papers, bits of artwork, pens, markers, etc… and I came across Ash’s race packet from the half marathon. Inside was one of those nice magazines about our city – the kind they make to show runners from other places how great we are. And though I am of two minds about that general claim, I started to feel very protective and warm towards good ol’ Tally. This place really did grow on me, considering that when my parents left me in my dorm room in August of 1997, I swore I’d be here for four years and not a second later. And here I am, twenty some years later.
Perhaps I am getting nostalgic and emotional because we’re making a move. Granted, I am moving a mere four miles up the road, but we made a lot of memories in this house.
That’s what it looked like when we first moved in, May 2005. Tune in next week and I’ll try to have a current photo. We took all the trees out of the front (and about 5 from the back) and those shrubs no longer exist. Sadly, about 1/3 of the grass has gotten all weedy and I don’t know why. But it has all new gutters, roof, garage door, and it served us well for 13 years.
Time to move on though and in case you missed it, here’s some pics from the new house!
This weekend, we had three of our manly guy friends over to help dismantle our rock climbing wall. We built it about ten years ago and it had a vertical and two negative walls, complete with a bunch of good holds. Back in the day, we did a lot of climbing but then more kids happened and we just got too busy. The new owner doesn’t want it so we had to take it down.
I have to remind myself that change is good, it’s for the better. With that, let’s rustle up some songs about change for freebie week!
Congrats on finding a new home! This is a bittersweet moment. I know when the day comes that we finally take the same leap then I’m gonna be all teary eyed to leave this place because there are nearly 40 years of memories tied up in the place. Here’s to making new wonderful memories in the new place. Thank you for joining the 4M gang on the dance floor!
I like the new place! You’ll have a lot more room in irt. Great selection of songs here.
I cannot imagine living any place else I have lived in this house since May 88 and have no plans to move but sometimes moving is what people need to do

Nice house! Congrats! Fitting songs
Wow that new kitchen looks amazing! The house seems to have so much light, that is a blessing! It is always hard to change though, especially when you remember all the special moments. But there will be new moments and lots more fun! Have a great week!
Congrats on the big move! What a lovely home (actually both of them are lovely). Super space in the new one. Love that big kitchen. i want it! And I want that pool! I need a pool so bad here in Texas! Wishing you all the best happiness in your new place.
Great songs, both of them. Love Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror” especially.
