1. In a rut, in a jam, in the groove, out of sync, off balance, out of touch…which saying best fits some area of your life currently (or recently)? Explain.
Off balance for sure! As mentioned, we had guys pulling up flooring and laying new tile so last night, we stayed in a hotel. Tonight we can be in the house but not the kitchen. And we can make that work, really, but it’s just a little bit unnerving because life just seems weird.
2. What is it about somebody else’s style of work (coworker/employee/shared volunteer project/household chore) that makes you crazy? Why?
There’s a woman in our office who, like everyone else, works 8-5 (for the most part) but she does this thing where she tells the grad students that she sees that she won’t see them between certain hours. This is so annoying to me because we are supposed to be available during those hours regardless of the other work we have to do. She can’t wrap her brain around multitasking so she sets time aside but in the meantime, the grad students cannot be seen and they get mad and tell ME about it. Ugh.
3. What’s a tradition that always makes you feel at home?
I don’t know if you could call it a tradition but the ritual of unpacking and doing laundry, etc… after a vacation. There’s this feeling of sliding back into the home by getting back to the usual routine.
4. A favorite song with a girl’s name in the title or lyrics? Any reason why this is a particular favorite?
I really like Another Day by James Taylor – there’s something so calming about it.
“Wake up Suzy, put your shoes on…”
Another is Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac. My sister even has lyrics from that tattooed on her arm!
“She is like a cat in the dark and then, she is the darkness.”
5. Share a favorite quote, verse, or saying relating to gratitude or thanksgiving.
I couldn’t think of just one thing but there’s a song sung by Bing Crosby that sums it all up.
I haven’t got a great big yacht
To sail from shore to shore
Still I’ve got plenty to be thankful for
No private car, no caviar
No carpet on my floor
Still I’ve got plenty to be thankful for
Ears to hear with
Arms to hug with
Lips to kiss with
Someone to adore
My needs are small, I buy them all
At the five and ten cent store
Oh, I’ve got plenty to be thankful for
Home improvement or remodel is never an easy thing to live through, but I’m sure you’ll enjoy it once it’s done. And it’s really hard to be without a kitchen. Have a happy Wednesday!
Ahh, sounds like you are in the same boat as us, getting a house ready to sell. I enjoyed your answers to the hodgepodge this week and I can identify with some of it for sure. Hope all smooths out soon.
