Wednesday Hodgepodge – Midweek writing frenzy

1. Something on your October calendar that makes you smile?

Oh ho, HAWAII! I have to say, as excited as I am for a break, for a while there, our vacation made me more anxious than excited. But as it gets closer, I am feeling so much better. I am still nervous about flying – as I just kind of hate the whole process –  but the trip itself and all we’re going to do is going to be so fun.

2. Food for the soul or music for the soul…which camp are you in? Tell us why.

Wow, tough one. I think I turn to music in so many situations so I will say that but nothing beats a good home-cooked meal when you’re feeling low! Music though, that can transport me out of a bad mood or bolster a good one. I tend to really ride out emotions so yes, music for my soul.

3. What are two or three things you’ve learned recently as the result of an online search?

Let’s see… I went looking for sushi places close to our Kona hotel and found there to be quite a few. And not only that, but a lot of restaurants in the area with 5 star ratings! Ash and I have been dieting and working out and when we get to Hawaii, we’re not holding back: we’re going to eat everything! So that was nice to see; I’m going to eat all the food!

I also did a search for “Wes Welker” because we were all, ‘Where the hell is he?’ He’s no longer on the Broncos. Turns out he’s doing a work out with the Giants this week. He’s one of my fave wide receivers in the NFL but the joke between me and my husband is that he’s helping coach Isaac’s flag team. Brackin’s dad looks just like the guy! So when we text each other during practices, we just refer to him as Wes Welker. It’s funny.Wes-Welker-Foundation

4. Share your favorite game day recipe. You can describe it, post the how-to, or add a link to the actual recipe.

Last season, I made mini meatballs in the crockpot a lot. Basically, I buy Aidell’s teriyaki pineapple meatballs at Costco. Mix in a bowl with about 12 ounces grape jelly and one bottle of HP chili sauce. Then put them on low in the crockpot for about 3 hours. Serve with toothpicks. 🙂

5. What are your five essential steps for creating the perfect morning routine?

My perfect morning routine requires me to be 1.) calm 2.)have gotten my workout in without interruptions 3.) the kids to be agreeable and not fighting 4.) no X factors like dogs puking or kids having melt downs and 5.) a good cup of coffee!

6. What small thing have you taken note of today?

I noted the exact same thing as our host: I can’t remember the last time I saw the sun. I *think* it came out briefly Monday afternoon but it was a very small sliver of time. Otherwise, it has been rainy/muggy/foggy for days on end.

7. Sum up your September in seven words or less.

I’m not even sure where it went!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

This Saturday, the local high school marching band will be going around to sell tix for their annual bbq lunch. Ever since my neighbors gifted me with their tickets one year, I always buy one. This time though, we might not be home to catch them so I’m considering just leaving a check for them. Is that weird? I don’t know. I just don’t want to miss it, you know?

  1. I almost said meatballs too, with a similar recipe. I use apple jelly instead of grape, but have had it both ways and like them both. Hawaii! That IS exciting! Have so much fun!

  2. Interesting answers I would love to go back to Hawaii Tim not so much he said it is just like Surfers Paradise but in a different country so why bother and in a way he is right but I would still like to go back I hope you have a bloody great time while there
