Thursday 13 – Trying to ease into the day

  1. I woke up feeling rested, which is surprising since I could not fall asleep last night, even though I was tired. Welcome to middle age!
  2. Alas, allergies have stricken and I am both sniffly and headachey. Ugh. Every day this week has been long but today may seem like it’ll be even longer, given how I feel. Plus, I have a lot to do after work, just like every day this week!
  3. Did I tell you about the turtle I saved the other day? Dakota and I ran out to Target on Sunday, just before football began, and on the way home, I saw this big box turtle trying to cross the road just before an intersection. It’s not a huge thoroughfare but it does have a lot of neighborhood traffic. Well, I put on my emergencies when I didn’t see any cars coming behind me and I bolted out to grab the little guy and put him back near the water that runs alongside the road. It’s kind of near a lake so I guess he got turned around. Hopefully once I rerouted him he didn’t try the road direction again!
  4. I had a weird moment this morning when I left for work and didn’t encounter traffic for at least five minutes. This is not normal for my neighborhood. And I didn’t leave any earlier than normal. Must be a slow morning for a lot of people!
  5. Yesterday was also weird; I got home and no one was there; Elliot was off to pick up another shift at the restaurant for some extra cash, Isaac was wit his girlfriend at her nail appointment for homecoming, and Dakota hadn’t gotten home from school yet. Once she did, she went up to do homework. It was basically just me, myself, and I in the house. And you know, I really quite enjoyed it. I’d put my meatballs in the crockpot and planned to make mashed potatoes closer to when people would get home. So I had a beer, watched a reel or two, sat outside a bit. Dakota went to youth group so I was all alone for a while.
  6. Everyone got home around 8-9 and the food was waiting for them. I personally think that’s too late but I always remember a friend of mine in this stage. She’d make something and leave it out. If they ate it, great. If not, there’s leftovers for another time. I always stressed about having everyone home for a meal but that just isn’t how our life is anymore!
  7. On that note, I wanted to snap a quick pumpkin patch pic with everyone. Last year, since it isn’t the same as it was when they were all little and relied on me for a ride everywhere, I had to quickly gather them and make them come up to the patch the church does in our neighborhood. Hoping to do that this Friday, if they all agree.
  8. It’s my 21st wedding anniversary today and sadly, Ash is out of town. He wrote me a lovely letter that he told me to go find and ready yesterday, then he said he had another surprise. Not too much of a surprise because I got a Fedex text saying a delivery from 1-800-Flowers would arrive today – lol. Hopefully they will leave them if I am not home, because I have stuff going on tonight.
  9. It’s crazy to think it has been that long. I met him in 1999! Where does the time go?
  10. I’m making a list of all these little things I have to do. I go in phases with list making. Sometimes I am always making lists and enjoying crossing off items. Sometimes I think I can hold all this stuff in my head but we all know that’s a delusion! Sure, moms/wives always have a long mental to-do list but at some point, there’s only so much I can do. It’s like, when I think of something when I’m, say, showering or brushing my teeth, then as soon as I get downstairs, I have completely forgotten it!
  11. I’m getting my 10th graders slowly but surely through Fellowship of the Ring. I created a worksheet with deep thought-provoking questions and am having them do it in groups. This paired with watching the movie as we get to those moments is solidifying the ideas, I hope.
  12. OK I have to bail on doing 13; I sat on this post all day and now here we are, at the end of the day!
