- In the interest of being Friday positive, I will only briefly detail my issue. At my school, faculty is generally expected to chaperone one of the two major dances. However, they both fell – this year – on dates I already have things. I emailed our new principal about this, offering to take on some other functions throughout the year but I received back a very formal, (what I interpreted to be) harsh email about needing to set a meeting to speak about “faculty expectations”. This really surprised me because up to this point, he’s been super easy-going and understanding. It got worse when I looked at the initial email and in no way does it remind faculty that it is a requirement; he phrased it as, “we are looking for volunteers”. THEN, his email to me pointed out I should not have made plans already knowing the dance dates. Guess what? Both prom and homecoming were placed on dates I had already made plans, before ever returning in the Fall. So at this point, I am just hoping they’ll allow us to do shifts and I can leave by 8:30. The thing I was going to begins at 6. Ugh.
- Tack on a surprise! active shooter lock down drill this morning and I want to scream! How can I get planning done if I have to deal with that nonsense?
- ANYWAY, yesterday worked out well for me. I met Isaac at Shoe Station and he actually found a pair he liked and fit. Sadly, we could not find a small enough belt. BUT, he realized his old belt from last year’s wedding fit and matched. Yay! He then found a shirt that he thought would work but ended up not liking it, then realized the one we did buy is a little too big. SO, he’s going to find one later today. Outfitting a kid for homecoming is annoying! Anyway, after that I took a mere 10 minute nap (I was literally almost asleep driving home) then Dakota and I went to her favorite Mexican place (sadly it was not very good that day) and then to my school’s performing arts night, which was better than anticipated.
- I was absolutely exhausted when I got home but I had to rally. Elliot’s girlfriend came over and then he apparently has an infection on his hand from a cut and I was unable to lance it myself. Now he has to go into the urgent care place. Which, to be honest, should be able to take care of it quickly.
- I used to have this superstition, back when I worked at FSU. If I threw away a piece of paper via tossing it across the room into the trash can and it didn’t go in, I thought I was going to have a bad day. Just a moment ago, I threw a crumpled paper all the way across my classroom and it went in, so methinks, it will turn out to be a good day!
