Random Tuesday – Wait, I have to go to work?

  • Feels like it has been a really long time since I was here, and though I am really trying not to feel reluctant, I for sure am. Which is a bad mindset to live in so I’d better get it together.
  • Yesterday was not nearly as productive as I’d have liked though; I got some stuff done but felt generally blah. In the late afternoon, I did make a casserole the kids like, then Dakota mowed her portion of the lawn. I read some, then Elliot and I watched a little of the football game, though I’d already lost in fantasy so that didn’t make it exciting.
  • I went to bed “early” (10:30ish) but could not seem to sleep at all. I don’t usually when my husband is out of town. I admit to taking an allergy pill then sleeping very well from the time it kicked in until my alarm, though I woke up all groggy. I am sure once I start teaching in second period, I’ll be into the groove.
  • I have plans to have dinner with a couple friends, which I always find amusing when we do because I am the epitome of this reel I’ve been seeing on socials lately; the one about being a “floater” friend. It’s me, I’m that person. But you know why? Because I almost always choose family and home over other things. Not that I don’t do social things; we do, as a couple. But it’s rare I run off with other people in lieu of being home and tending to things. And that’s ok; I have come to terms with who I am.
  • I reached out to the mom of this girl Isaac is now dating and it’s really refreshing that she is so kind and open to chatting. Meanwhile, my oldest has been with his girlfriend for over a year and a half and her parents are still actively trying to get them to break up…and I have never met them! It’s such an annoying situation, always simmering in the background. She’s the nicest person and her parents just really are not.
  • I am meeting him at the mall later to continue shopping for Homecoming. It’s kind of stressful, because he’s gotten rather tall lately but he has a tiny waist. Even size 30s were way too big. I’m worried I won’t even be able to find 28s and make them work with a belt.
  • OK, I am off to get my wits about me to make it through a day of teaching. It’s only Tuesday.

  1. It’s tough when the parents are working against a relationship. Have they said why? Is it just age? You always seem like you’re getting a lot done to me : ) I don’t do a lot of girls nights either. I prefer couples although I did go to a book event lastweek with some women but it felt like an event and not just a ‘let’s go out and drink wine’ kind of thing. I don’t sleep well when my hubs is out of town either. I stay up way too late for one thing. Hope you have a great day!

  2. You’ve made it through your teaching day! I hope it went well. Now just three more teaching days till the weekend. That stinks about your son’s girlfriend’s parents. My daughter has been dating her boyfriend for four years now though they were broken up about three months of the time. We saw the parents at picture taking events like prom and homecoming and they were very kind and personable. The mom and I exchanged phone numbers and we texted pictures after the events. But since the kids graduated high school, we’ve not interacted with them at all. (I’m pretty sure they know our political leanings and suffice it to say they are not theirs.) I could reach out to the mom but I’m not sure what the point would be. If/when we do see them, I’m sure we’ll all be polite like we were when the kids were in high school. I hope your son’s girlfriend’s parents are at least polite and kind to him when they see him.

    1. It’s funny you mention political leanings because I do think her parents probably do vote the same. They are just really not sociable people. My son tells me they don’t have any friends they do stuff with. It’s weird. And also, he never goes there; he’s only met them one time so I can’t speak to them being kind to him. At least my middle’s girlfriend seems to have a much cooler family.
