Seeing as how I have a little extra time today, I’m easing into the morning. My son needs a pickup from the tire place and they don’t open until 8.
Anyway, I left at 1:15 Friday and as noted, I had planned to go to the doc about my poison ivy but it has basically stopped itching, though looks bad. So instead, I met Ash for a burger. We went home and you know what I did? I got into my pajamas!
However, my relaxing time was rudely interrupted when my daughter called to say the bus broke down and that I couldn’t pick her up unless I brought my ID. For some reason, this really made me angry but as I approached said broke down bus, I became even more enraged when she said I couldn’t also take the neighbor. Dakota’s friend, Emma, also rides the bus and her mom texted to see if I’d pick her up too. Not gonna lie, I had about two beers in the past 3 hours so I was loose enough to argue with this driver, who was super rude. We showed her the texts from the mom to prove I wasn’t some psycho but she still wouldn’t. I said to her, “Don’t you think if I was a stranger these kids – who are 13 – would say so?” But no, she said, it’s all about liability and following the rules. I scoffed and retorted, “Following the rules: like when you are 20 minutes late or you leave the kids sitting on the bus while you run into the Circle K for a Big Gulp?” She didn’t even engage with that but continued to tell me no. Boy was I mad. And I certainly said bad words in front of middle school children. Not my finest moment but I was just at a breaking point. Also, I’m a perimenopausal woman; I have zero fucks left to give!
I had to really calm myself down after that. We watched a movie, did a bit of bowling. The weather was not too bad then I looked out the small front window and it was absolutely pouring. Ugh. Both boys had stuff going on in the evening – Isaac worked and Elliot went out with friends. I’m pretty sure he didn’t get home until 3! I’m of two minds about that. If he didn’t live in my house, he’d probably do that anyway, though I may not know about it and hence, not worry.
I wanted to be productive on Saturday but it was very gloomy out and I wasn’t exactly motivated. Dakota and I ran up to Target for a couple things, as well as a gift for a 2 year old; we had a birthday party later that day. I was originally planning to go to Costco on Sunday but Ash and I decided to go Saturday when they opened. Came home and made something small for everyone (different things) and shredded five Costco chickens for my Sunday meal, then we puttered about before the 2 pm party. Somewhere in there Isaac came home from refereeing, then went back out to his dishwasher job, which ended up sending him home because it wasn’t busy.
The little birthday party was nice. It’s a friend we made from brew club but he and Ash also had running in common and then he joined their fantasy football league. The little girl was turning 2 and it could be the last time we see her (though he may come over on a Sunday) because they’re planning to move. People come in and out of your life and that’s just how it is!
We got home a little before 5 and threw on the FSU game. A shock to see them win. I don’t even care for college football but I still pay attention to my alma mater. Plus, their wins and losses do affect people in town.
Sunday was much rainier but I still got out there and did my mile. Ash and Dakota did a very wet 3 miler, but they’re gearing up for a 10k later in November. I need to infuse more running into my life but I cannot seem to make the time. I HAVE the time but it’s almost like I forget. Once I get home I do other things! Anyway, I went to the store then started on a white chicken chili. I like a lot of chicken in mine and have learned that you can’t crowd the pan if you want all the pieces to brown, so it takes forever and a day to do all those small batches. I do think I had it all ready after about an hour and a half of cooking. I worked on laundry and watched football, though lost in both fantasy leagues. In the late afternoon I put chicken in two crockpots; one with bbq sauce and one without (though I added chicken broth to keep it from drying out), then around 5:40, Dakota and I took everything up to the church for her youth group. Ash had fallen asleep, Isaac went to work, and Elliot went to get some food, promising to get me some but then he forgot! I was a little annoyed by that. Luckily there were leftovers from the church meal so I had a little of that after I picked her up. In the evening, we watched a really crazy Swedish movie from the 70s and then headed to bed!
As noted, today was a little wonky. The tire thing went fine but then on my way to work, there was an accident at the end of this short cut road I take so I had to turn around and take another route. Between that and the rain, I walked in RIGHT after 2nd period began. Luckily, the teacher they got to sub really only had to take attendance and I walked in. I am trying not to let this gloomy day affect me too much; I am going to be positive!
