Friday Five – Oh, Fall, there you are!

  1. It’s a lovely 65 this morning and you know, for Florida, that’s so nice. Granted, where I am here, it does get cold. Most folks imagine the entire state is warm like Orlando or even more like Miami, but that is not the case.
  2. We gloriously have NO plans this weekend, and it is also a break in premiere league so our Saturday is free. I think we may work on the pool and the fire pit tomorrow, as well as squeeze in a run or two. I am really excited for the weekend, can you tell?
  3. First, though, I have to, you know, TEACH. Ugh. I don’t much have it in me today but I will manage. Knowing I have a weekend ahead helps. Plus, my ploy worked: I left the bins with outdoor Halloween decor out in the living room in hopes my middles – who historically has loved helping me put them out – would notice and say something. And this morning, as he was about to leave for school, suggested doing it today. Yay! You can’t stop your kids from growing up and out of certain things but you can hope they still want to.
  4. We sadly did not win trivia last night. The music round was cover songs, which is always a challenge. We lost that one by one question. Sigh. But it was still really fun and a nice time with friends.
  5. I saw a post this morning from the local Facebook group (a general area group) about how people seem generally angrier and impatient now, especially when driving. I too have noticed this and I think it’s in part due to the economy but also, the way everyone makes a big deal out of politics and the idea of being opposed to other people. We sort of brought it on ourselves, I think. I understand feeling stressed about money, I really do. But I wish more people were kinder and giving to one another. One big problem I see – and far be it for me to tell anyone what to do – is that we are less and less religious now. We’ve lost that kernel of what once was American society. While I don’t go to church regularly (except Wednesday mass), I do think we all could use a little more of that in our lives. Maybe we’d be a little better to the world around us. In any case, happy Friday everyone!
