Ah, the seemingly endless cycle of work-relax-work starts again on Monday.
Friday, I was very ready to head home. My husband asked about dinner and we decided that I’d pick up Texas Roadhouse on my way home, then figure out something for the kids. That pretty much worked out because 2/3 of them had other plans. The food was good, then Ash and I sat down to watch a movie. A goal of ours had been to watch a lot, since our busy weekends before precluded us from doing so. We watched an old one called ‘Warlock’, which was decent. Then we went to bowl but it turns out I had not really relaxed yet. I was preoccupied with areas of dirt and mess in that room so I was getting on my husband’s nerves. I also think the full moon was in effect.
After a small spat, I went outside and tried to actually get into a relaxed state of mind. It took me a bit but I got there. We watched another movie after but I cannot remember the name! I know it reminded me of the The Haunting but it was older. Isaac was working and it was nearly midnight when he still wasn’t home. I love that he’s making money now but the late nights are killing my psyche. He was fine, of course, and was home around 12:30. The last couple Fridays I stayed up and waited for him. It’s funny though because if I do that, I somehow wake up between 5-6 the next morning.
Luckily I did feel motivated on Saturday morning so I started on cleaning up the kitchen, then went outside to do a bit of weed whacking. There were some small trees that had grown quite large and had some wayward branches growing onto the roof. I started working on this too but quickly realized that even though they were small, they still required the chainsaw… so I got Ash to do it. We cleared quite a bit, vines too. Dakota helped us move branches to the street and once we were done, it looked a lot better.
Elliot tested my pool chems the set me up with the vac and I cleaned it, which was another needed task. It’s basically time to cover it. I mean, the temp that morning was 59! A few more of those days and the pool won’t be swimmable anyway. Once the pool was done we headed to the store and then I prepped food for nearly an hour: guacamole then fajita chicken. It was a busy morning!
And hence, why the afternoon was not. We finished watching ‘Return of the Living Dead’, which we had started weeks ago but kept getting interrupted. It wasn’t bad; it’s the movie credited with coming up with the idea that zombies want brains. We then moved onto a cheesy 80s flick called ‘Spring Break’, which was also pretty good, for what it was. We started on the 5th Nightmare on Elm Street but we also watched some college football and talked to the kids. They all had something they were doing, from going out with friends, to biking in the neighborhood, to picking up a shift at a restaurant with a friend. Both boys didn’t get home until late and I was happy when they did! I know there’s no use in staying up worrying but I still do.
Woke up early again Sunday with some itching on my hand and arm; suspected poison ivy. Ash has it too, if not as bad as mine. Should have worn long sleeves and gloves, I guess. But I didn’t see any in that area! Oh well. We got out the hair dryer and put it in the kitchen to use on the itching throughout the day! We both ran, then I began laundry and went to Publix. Just had sandwiches. My middle finally helped me put the outside Halloween stuff up! Dakota mowed her portion of the lawn and we got the blow ups set, as well as my meager little graveyard. We need new ones because those never really last long. The rest of the afternoon was just football.
The boys watched with for a good long while. A friend also came over. Isaac had to work then Elliot picked up his girlfriend. When she got here I was already planning to pick up Chipotle and she also wanted it but he didn’t, so we all went up there and he just accompanied us. I kind of felt bad because we monopolized her a bit when we were eating in the kitchen and this was the only time they’d been able to hang out this week. Oh well. It was nice to be able to talk to her anyway.
Dakota had a friend over in the late afternoon too and they swam, which may be the last time anyone is in the pool this season. But I was glad for it. It’s there to be used and might as well. Both boys were, again, out in the evening but just as I was heading to bed, they got home. A miracle! I was able to go to sleep without worrying about us not all being under the same roof.
Awoke this morning around 5, tossed and turned for maybe 20 minutes, then got up, not realizing Ash already had. Fair to say, I think he slept in until 7:30 on Saturday. We’re both walking up earlier and earlier these days. I guess this is just where we are, age-wise. I don’t know! You’d think I’d want to keep sleeping, seeing as how I feel very busy/overwhelmed lately. Today isn’t too bad; I am making pizza crescent rolls for the kids and probably going to Goodwill. Dakota needs jeans for a theater performance night later this week. Tomorrow, she has to go up to the closest high school to perform with the band for a middle school football game. They do it every year so this isn’t new, it’s just kind of annoying. But I mean, I guess we are always trying to find ways to fill weeknight evenings so we don’t just sit on screens. And we shall: she also has her last cross country meet Wednesday and then Thursday, the aforementioned theater thing. Friday though? Don’t ask me to do anything!
