Wednesday podge – Time, and time again

1. I saw a meme on Instagram that went like this-‘The movie Dirty Dancing came out in 1987 and was set in 1963, so if remade in 2026 it would be set in 2002. Now I need a little lie down in a dark room for a while.”

Time is crazy isn’t it? So…what were you up to in the year 2002?

Hmm, well, I was graduating college…after 5 years. I took an extra year because I switched majors and needed to get on track. In that year, I was living in a rented (huge) house with three others and once I graduated and wasn’t quite ready for grad school, I got a job at CompUSA as a cashier. So we all worked and hung out and played computer games ’til late in the night. It wasn’t a bad year for me, that’s for sure. But it does feel like a long time ago! I am including a photo of my pin board from then and one of me, though that could have been 2003.

2. “Me? I’m scared of everything…” What’s something that scares you that you’d like to try anyway?

That I would LIKE to try? Writing and completing a novel. Things I DID try? Horror movies. They always left me unsettled and sleepless but these days, I’ve had kids so nothing scares me!

3. Watermelon-yay or nay? Which melon is your favorite-watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew Of the watermelon food/beverages listed which would you say yes to…

watermelon salsa~watermelon feta salad~watermelon sorbet~a watermelon Jolly Rancher~a watermelon margarita

I am not a big watermelon fan. Sometimes it tastes like garlic to me. So tbh, I want none of the above.

4. August 12th is National Middle Child Day. Are you a middle child? If not, where do you fall in the birth order in your family of origin? Do you think this has influenced your personality? Elaborate.

I am the oldest of two, as is my husband. I have a middle child and he is sort of the quintessential middle; he does like to please and he takes care of everyone. Although, sometimes I see reels that show the middle being slapshod and harried when it comes to tasks and mine is not.

5. Would you rather talk to everyone at a crowded party for a short time, or have a significant conversation with two people? Explain.

The latter BUT I tend to talk to everyone if I am hosting.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

After our whirlwind day yesterday, I got into bed at 10:45 and slept all the way until 5! Kind of a miracle. But then I couldn’t go back to sleep so I just got up and sat in the quiet of the living room. The youngers go back to school today, and I realize there’s a new sort of vibe in the house – or at least, morning choreography that must be done. My middle gets up at 6 for school, my oldest, slightly earlier to get his pool truck ready and my husband, 6:20. I leave by 7:05 so I weave in somewhere. We have 3 bathrooms but it still feels rushed and chaotic.

My middle drove himself to school today and while he’s been driving alone for months now, I’m still nervous. And I’m not even the mom to over-worry! Probably stems from a little PTSD from my February accident, truth be told. I’ve felt unsettled all week, partly due to the new school year and the first week and all that stuff. I’m just trying to stay busy in the evenings and do some quiet praying when I can and rest easy in the fact that everything will be alright.

To recap, we went to Gainesvile last night to get the Vienna lager kits. It wasn’t a bad drive; we paid and loaded up, then went to Chuy’s. I definitely overate but we never get Chuy’s anymore! We were actually home by 9:30 but we did watch the newest Hard Knocks episode then got in bed. That was a good episode! I hope Seattle does get Terrion Arnold; he went to the high school where I now teach so that would be neat.

For those who work all week, do you find you have a day somewhere in the week where you’re just off your game and “not feeling it?” That is me today! Hopefully I will get it together at some point here. I did have 1st and 2nd as planning but they made another creative writing section but for now, it only has 2 kids in it. I guess today we’ll need to do…something.

  1. I think a new school year requires a lot of adjusting, patience (with others, but yourself especially) and taking time to pray is always a good idea. Soon everyone will have found their rhythm and you’ll be rolling along. Busy, but in a groove hopefully. I don’t work, but woke up off my game today lol. I guess it happens sometimes.

  2. 2002 sure does sound like a good year for you. You should try writing a novel but I think that would scare me too. I hope the return to school has gone well. The mornings do sound like they could be chaotic.

  3. Sometimes Wednesday mornings are when I feel “off kilter.” This week, I worked on Sunday and had to work longer and harder than a normal Sunday. On Monday, I was at work for over 11 hours. On Tuesday, I worked from the office until 2:00 and then at home . . .then we had young adults (22 of them) at our house for dinner. This morning . . .I’m feeling a tad tired! Five people and three bathrooms would make for a hectic morning! I hope today ends up being a great day for you!

  4. Yah it sounds like new school year adjustment for everyone including you. Throw in a new driver AND your time consuming (but fun!) hobby of home brewing and I can see how you’re tired and a bit stressed these days. Maybe add trying to write a novel into the mix. KIDDING! But I’d love to read a novel by you…

  5. I think you should try writing your book. When I was working, the new school year did take a little adjusting. We have also gone through this with two of our grands. One just graduated and the other is a senior. We do worry about them when they are out, but you know they will be okay. I think it is hard when mine were teens because I was going though perimenopause and that messed up my emotions. Praying is always a calming thing. I hope you feel better soon!
