Well, it’s officially day one of the school year for me (even though public school kids don’t go back until Wednesday) so I am here in the classroom, easing in. Obviously pre-planning week got me here and in the mindset but kids are here now so…it begins.
But, the weekend! Friday, I was able to leave by 2 and I snagged my daughter for her sports physical. It took a little longer than I wanted but it all worked out ok. My husband should have loaded the car but, well, he did not so when I got home we felt a bit rushed. All we really had to take were our kegs but we brought some tools and signs as well. We got to the civic center with about 10 minutes left to put said kegs into cold storage and then met up with our club mates to set things up. Ash and I came in our running stuff for the beer mile and at 5 (one hour before) realized we’d forgotten our bibs. Sigh. I called Elliot to see if he could meet us halfway to save time. We met at our old house, funny enough, and just did a drive by handoff. We got back and parked with about 15 minutes to spare before the run.
I am sad to report that I did not do as well as last year. No real puking occurred but I definitely could not down as much liquid as easily as last year. Ash did well though and he was pretty happy with his time. We changed and went into the VIP/Brewer event. Good food this year, thankfully, and we tried some good beer, but some was also awful. Some breweries like to dump their trash on others, I guess.
Saturday was actual beerfest day but we didn’t leave until about 10. I was kind of antsy so I loaded the rest of the stuff throughout the morning and tried not to panic. I don’t know why I do before this event; it’s not our first rodeo. Everyone at our tent was helpful this year so it was easier. By 11:30 or so we were done enough to make the rounds and chat with people we know and try beer. By 1, VIP was coming in and the chaos began.
Above, a shot of the fest in full swing and then the tent we run.
It was a very good time and I even saw some coworkers, as well as a guy we knew years and years ago when our oldest kids were in the same things. We were home by maybe 7:30 and the only thing I unpacked were the cold kegs. Then? I sat. That event is always so hard on my body. I know we put a movie on (Hellraiser?) but I think I fell asleep. Oh, no, I know! The boys wanted Chinese so we got that first and after I ate, I was out. My daughter had gone to a theme park we have about an hour away but wasn’t due to be home until 11 so I put a boy on that task and went to sleep!
Sunday I got laundry going and finished unpacking stuff, then around 9 we hit Total Wine and 10, Costco. Ell was hanging out with his girlfriend and Dakota went to the beach with the youth group and Isaac didn’t want to come, so Ash and I went to our favorite Mexican place and had a yummy lunch. I also retried Margaritas and you know, I still don’t care for them. But that’s ok; you have to try to make sure, right? We came home and did some bowling then sat down to watch Hellraiser 2…and we both just fell asleep! Woke up and realized it and admitted that between the long day before and all the food/drink, we were just worn the heck out. But it all worked out ok in the end; I finished laundry, made some dinner, then we rewatched the movie we slept through! We have been making our way through a lot of the old slasher films and they aren’t really scary, but Hellraiser is pretty gruesome; way worse than the others.
We have quite a busy week; I’m taking my daughter to the mall tonight, we have to drive down to Gainesville and back tomorrow, Wednesday is the kids’ first day, Thursday is brew club, then Friday we have our soccer fantasy league draft. It’s always a lot around here!

Sounds like a good and busy weekend! I hope your first day is going well :). Too bad that the run didn’t go as hoped for but it sounds like it’s more of a fun event than an opportunity to show off athletic dominance. You guys do stay busy!
No way could I run and drink beer in the same event. I’d have to skip the running lol. Sounds like a busy weekend, but lots of fun too. Hope you have a great year back in school!
We were at dinner with three other couples on Sunday night and I was telling them about your beer run. Then they asked “who is this?” and it is weird to explain to someone that it is a “blog friend.” Anyway — one couple ran lots of races and they were talking about the doughnut runs PLUS the wife was the driver for a 200 mile run from Jim Beam in Tennessee up through Kentucky on the bourbon trail. They went to lots of distilleries. She drove the van for the rest of the relay team between locations. As in . . . drove through the night.
Wow, the Bourbon trail relay sounds insane!! My husband did a donut run years ago and while he finished, it was very poorly organized. Would not recommend.
