Thursday 13 – Enjoying the last tendrils of summer break

  1. As I sit here in my sun room, I can see some gray clouds starting to lighten to a pale blue, as well as a golden shaft of sun trying to come out. It rained in the night – thunderstorm actually – but judging from the amount of water in the pool, it was more bark than bite. I woke around 5 and couldn’t sleep due to the sporadic flashes of lightning coming through our bedroom windows. So I got up at 5:45 and made the coffee.
  2. There’s actually quite a bit of rain heading our way, which doesn’t bode well for my daughter’s pool party Saturday. While I got in bed at 10, I don’t think I fell asleep until 11:30 because Ash and I were planning – both for the next couple days of meals but also, a backup plan for the girls. I suggested painting but he pointed out that they’re not 8, but 13. Meanwhile, my daughter thought that was a good idea. We can always set up a movie or TV show and maybe some kind of game, though kids are not how they used to be. In my day, some kind of game would have been entertaining. These days, kids are already entertained to death.
  3. I have a follow-up doc appointment this morning to talk about how HRT is going. For the most part, it is working. No more hot flashes, I don’t want to kill people and I do feel more emotionally alive, which is both good and bad! I am still not sleeping great, even with the meds, eating keto, not eating after 4pm, etc. So I will mention that.
  4. Last week I was panicking about money but this week, I have found a certain zen about it. Once Fall gets rolling, it’ll all even out anyway. But here’s also hoping my one online college finds a second section for me. Fingers crossed. It makes me exceedingly busy but also, pays the bills.
  5. Trivia tonight and we have not been in a while. I’m looking forward to it. I am also, even though we’ll eat a pretzel, going to eat ground beef and a veg for dinner. I need to get back to low carb, even if we will drink beer. It balances everything out and is just…better.
  6. Besides grading, one of my goals today is to sit down with the calendar. With August on the horizon, there is A LOT to keep track of. From me going back to work, to the kids returning to school, to the myriad fantasy football (and now, soccer) drafts, I just need to make the calendar my friend.
  7. We’ve been threatening to do fantasy soccer for years now but finally pulled the trigger. I’m excited for it! Isaac went to the internet for a creative team name but I swore I’d let mine come to me naturally and creatively. In the end, I came up with: Haaland Oates. I know, I am hilarious!
  8. Ugh, on the drive back from camp I suddenly started feeling rather headachey. I blame this weird weather. Even though I haven’t felt like this heat has been terrible, I do think the pressure from the rainstorms is starting to affect me.
  9. I still feel drawn to the sun and having a nice tan and sitting by the pool but somewhere in the far reaches of the back of my mind, there’s a teeny tiny bit of that Fall pull. I’ve thought about football season and the first cool morning and holidays. BUT I don’t want to rush either.
  10. We didn’t run this morning because my legs are already feeling it. But I plan to run tomorrow and then I don’t know how we will work next week. If I have to be to work around 8 or 8:30 for in-service, it’s possible we could get out by 6:30 but Dakota will definitely not like that!
  11. Man, even though it hasn’t been a particularly difficult or stressful week, I am ready for the weekend.
  12. On a whim, I logged into the kids’ school portal and remembered to do their start of school forms. A new thing they started last year was a registration for the bus. In order to solve one of the county’s on-going issues of not enough buses, they are making parents tell the compounds if kids will actually be at every stop. If kids don’t show up to a stop 3 days in a row, the bus won’t stop! It’s pretty stupid because what if my kid is sick? Also, when Dakota is in Cross Country season, she doesn’t ride in the morning but she does in the afternoon. We’ve had a lot of issues with this over the years.
  13. Alright, it is time to get ready for the doc then hit the store. Here’s hoping the sun comes out later because I wanted to sit by the pool a little.
