Monthly Musings – It IS the last Thursday of the month, isn’t it?


  1. Yes! We purposely did our trip this summer around American history. We saw (and I think this is all of it?): The USS Constitution, the old burial ground in Boston, Paul Revere’s house, the Freedom Trail, which included the place where the Boston Massacre began, Lexington and Concord, the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Valley Forge, the place Washington crossed the Delaware, Mount Vernon, and the actual tent George Washington camped in for six years. I think we checked off a lot of items!
  2. I haven’t bought any more home decor but we got magnets at many of the above places. I also picked up a cheap patriotic shirt from Academy.
  3. I don’t tend to make any themed things except for the dessert I do with cool whip, pudding, and blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. Isaac loves it and it’s probably time to make one.
  4. I love fireworks! Not sure if we’ll go this year or not but a friend of ours who lives out in the country buys a ton and we go to a field of his and fire them off.
  5. I do dress in red, white, and blue sometimes. I actually have American flag shorts I wear over my bathing suit, along with a similar tank top. I have some Academy shirts that say Freedom on there.
  6. As noted above, I don’t know if we’ll go out on the 4th but if nothing else, our plan probably includes watching movies like Independence Day, Sandlot, and, National Treasure.
  7. I was born in ’79!
  8. I guess I do like the Battle Hymn of the Republic but I also like that “Proud to be an American one.” If we’re being honest, my favorite one is the Hulk Hogan theme but I know that causes some issues with people who didn’t like him.
  9. Favorite memory… hmm, probably one of the ones from my childhood when we visited my grandparents in Palm Beach. We didn’t often visit for that holiday but this one I remember stands out because we got up on the flat roof of their patio and watched fireworks at the nearby country club. I remember being afraid to get back down from the roof but my grandpa talked me through it.
  10. No, I have attended parades but never been in one!
