Friday Five – It’s been a good week

  1. I woke up today thinking about Arthurian Legends. Don’t ask why! I want to find a way to infuse it into one of my classes but can’t figure out where or when. (Also, ‘where or when’ just hearkened me back to Pirates of the Caribbean and I mean, can I teach pirates too?) All this to say: I’m on Summer break and I’m thinking about what to teach next year!
  2. I got some poison ivy on my forearms about a week and a half ago and it is not going away. I’m using the hair dryer method (the best way to get rid of itches, tbh) but it’s taking too long. Then I read how healing slows down during perimenopause. Oh, wonderful!
  3. Speaking of that, my doctor prescribed me an estrogen patch and a progesterone pill. I trust this doctor and feel like this is a good route to go. He also has me going back in 2 months to discuss how it’s going. Well, if I could ever get on it! They have not filled either one and apparently there is a “nationwide shortage” for the pill. I am not sure that is true but the ladies at CVS told me so. I also told them that their system was retarded and they’re outsourcing their thinking to the robots. I called to get a status update but couldn’t get a real person on the phone. SO, since I was out and about I stopped in. Guess I haven’t gone into the CVS lately because now, you have to log into a computer first, right there at the register, before anyone will talk to you. They claim it’s because of HIPAA and I’m like, the last 100 years of pharmacists knowing my info wasn’t wrong but it is now? PLEASE.
  4. So I know a lot of people have a glass of wine or one or two beers every day – or most – of the week. For me, beer is a large part of my life, since we brew it and run the club, etc. Well, since we have gone back to fasting and keto during the week, we are also trying not to drink M-TH. Sometimes we have slipped up and had a glass of bourbon on a Wednesday. This week we were very good! Today will be my first drink. I’m actually going to sit by the pool with my neighbor. I texted her and asked what she was doing today and her answer was “I’ll be around; what do you need?” Ha! We have that kind of friendship I guess. We look out for each others’ houses, etc. I told her no, I don’t need anything, I want to hang out! Neighbors, like coworkers, are funny like that though; I’m 47 and she is 70 and we’re friends.
  5. I have a lot to get done before that though; I put off my online grading so I’m working on it now. I have to clean a couple kegs so we can transfer this Czech pilsner before we leave for vacation. I have to boil eggs for tomorrow’s bottle share. I also have a DMV appointment at 12:45. But then, around 2, I am OUT. I am pool-sitting, skin-tanning, chat-chatting, and relaxing! It is summer after all.

  1. I hope the patch and pill work for you! My doctor wanted to confirm that I was “depleted” so I had to take a very hardcore urine test over 48 hours- multiple.times a day under specific parameters/times. The test confirmed I was all out of hormones so that’s when I was put on them. I hope you’re relaxing by the pool right about now! Several of my neighbors are like that- we’re friends, we help each other out- I love it! Have a great weekend!

    1. My doctor said we could do labs and see what my levels were but they could come back and say, oh, you still have some so you’re fine, but of course, if you’re having issues, those two things are out of alignment. So that is why he went ahead and did this. It makes sense.

  2. I hope you had a nice pool sit, that sounds so inviting!

I never knew that about perimenopause and healing, but why not add something else to the list of grievances? I never tried hrt, and in hindsight, I kinda wish I’d at least asked. I think I’m too old now. I’ve used an off-the-shelf progesterone cream for the last few years. I think it helped a little with the hot flashes. Keep us updated if you ever get your scrips! “told them that their system was retarded” – HA!

    1. So the very next day, I had my RXs. She said she’d tell my doctor they couldn’t get the one pill then magically, it was there. I don’t know if he threatened them or called in something different but voila. LOL.
