Hello Monday – First REAL day off

Indeed, today marks my official first day of summer break. Last week we had in-service and while, yes, Friday wasn’t a day to be in school, I was so busy, it wasn’t relaxing! Well, ok, some of it was. In the morning, for the third day in a row, I woke my two younger kids up by 7 and we took a walk. Nothing more than a mile and a half but it’s been a good way to get going in the morning. After that, it was time for my middle child to take his driving test. Sadly, he missed the boat on it during driver’s ed. That’s the cheese; you take the course and a guy from the DMV comes to campus and administers tests. They somehow ran out of time back in the fall and not all kids got to do it. Sigh. So we had to drive to the other side of town.

It worked out though and was not a hassle. We – i.e. people of my age – tend to associate DMV with ‘headache’ but it wasn’t bad. He got all the things signed and then his tester took him out. Funny thing: while I was waiting for him, a kid came in who looked familiar and when he said his name, I knew where he was from. Isaac had gone to preschool with him! Once he left for his test, I turned to the grandma and told her. We had a nice little conversation. Isaac got back and of course, had passed. I’m not sure anyone fails; I mean, they took his photo before he even drove! New license in hand, he drove us back home. Ash had a half day and while we had planned to go out to this one country store and get sausage, we decided to save that for another day and four of us went for Mexican. After that, we stopped into the Goodwill and the kids both got a couple things, bathing suit for my son being the main goal. We mostly just watched movies and drank beer in the evening. I was ready to relax after a long school year!

Saturday morning, I was still stressing about my pool. Turns out it was the filter so I had my pool lady on it. She picked one up and had planned to install it that afternoon. Around 9 we went outside to do some yardwork. There’s a line of trees in my neighbor’s yard along the fence that are super overgrown and being weighed down by vines. I began pulling them, knowing it was basically futile. We did mange to clear some areas and hedge. Ash and Isaac fixed the gate latch. After, we just had sandwiches and then the rain rolled in. We watched movies and my daughter went to a friend’s house. I am certain that later in the evening, two people wanted pizza and two of us wanted Chipotle so that’s what we did. We started watching Mad Men, since we never have, but it’s not for us. Not my jam, I guess.

Sunday began slowly. I didn’t have much I wanted to do – and I had banged out laundry the day before – so we ended up just doing little things around the house. We couldn’t decide what to have for lunch so we went to Texas Roadhouse, which was good but I felt bad eating out. Oh well. In the afternoon we watched a movie called Two For the Money from 2005. It was good but not amazing. My pool lady finally came later on and we have a brand new filter. Our old one hadn’t been working great for a while so I guess it was just time.

Today, we did about 1.37 miles at 7, then I took my daughter and her friend up to the church where they’re both volunteering for their VBS. Came home and helped Isaac build a bedframe. I’d gotten him one back in April but the top soft part didn’t fi – wouldn’t zip all the way. I don’t know if it was defective or what but my oldest has the same one and we didn’t have a problem. I had gotten a replacement and this one fit fine. So, yay. Success. So yeah, it’s 9:30 and I have already done so much! Later, I have to get them from VBS, then take my daughter onto her normal camp, then I have an oil change appointment at 1. I am considering walking across the street to get a pedicure while they work on my car but I also don’t want to spend money!
