Well y’all, this is the last week of school. We have one regular day, four testing days, and the next week I have three teacher in service days before I am free. I’m not sure if I feel a renewed sense of motivation after the weekend necessarily, but I’m sure I will make it.
Anyway, if you saw my Friday post, I found out that my mom had gone to the hospital after having what appeared to be a seizure though after a lot of tests they’re not sure. Apparently in the last few years my mom has developed panic attacks of some sort due to anxiety (I’m not sure why anyone who is retired has anxiety but who knows where I will be in my ’70s). Anyway, when they finally released her Friday afternoon, they told her to try to relax and have a low cholesterol diet, which is quite the joke because when you Google that they tell you to use vegetable oils which we all know now are horrible for you. Anyway, I digress.
I got home Friday and cleaned up a little bit before going to a meeting. Had not been out to The Hub in a while but it was fun; decent beer selection. We got a lot of things sorted out for our Homebrew club and then went home to watch movies.
We adjusted our schedule Saturday to meet up with my sister who was bringing us her old car, since my dad facilitated her purchasing a new one. The plan had been for her to get there around 12:00; my family is bad at planning and she didn’t get there until 1:30, which is annoying because we told her we wanted to go to lunch. I mean, I guess it worked out because we did go for Mexican when they got there. I wish she had spoken up though; when I asked where they wanted to go, I gave her a couple options and she said she didn’t care. Except then we got to the restaurant, and she made a comment that Mexican is not her favorite. On top of all that, she didn’t even thank us for paying for their lunch. I know it’s family and you’re supposed to forgive a lot of things, but there are so many aspects about my sister I really just don’t like.
In and around all that other stuff- brewing early, then cleaning, then taking my daughter to a birthday party 10 minutes up the road – we managed to get everything done. At one point my daughter called and asked to be picked up because she wasn’t having a good time. So I got in the car and a minute later she said, oh never mind, we’re doing things now; it’s fun. I think it was because it was really her first boy/girl party so there was some uncomfortable aspects but in the end she had a really good time. After she got home she asked if her friend could spend the night, but we’re never really too keen on those things. Sometimes they just don’t work out right but we always suggest that her friends can come and leave late and we will even take them home. So that is what happened; her friend came over and they swam for a bit and I think she went home around 9:30.
Ash and I both slept in Sunday (6:45!) because, well he at least stayed up to watch that SEVENTEEN SECOND fight. I was awake to see it but had been couch napping before. I was content laying in bed a while longer but he wanted to get up and run. We oxygenated the wort from the day before and pitched our yeast, then he ran four miles. Meanwhile, I FINALLY got around to putting the bolts back in the ground. We have a very nice pool cover and the bolts upon which the springs are attached get screwed into the ground but after we took it off, I slacked on putting them back in. Mostly because the job consists of getting out the blowing and removing dirt from each hole, then drying each one, spraying a special WD-40 on each one, then hand tightening before actually tightening. It only really took about 40 minutes but still. Once that was done, I went to the store and we had hamburgers for lunch. I had a weird gap of time to fill before going to my school’s graduation, so I did laundry and some cleaning.
Graduation was nice, if not a little tedious. But only took a little over 2 hours. Came home to finally relax. Koda had been in the pool with a friend and then Ell and his girlfriend were in when I got home. Ash and I watched a couple movies and then at one point, Ell went to the store and I requested a sushi roll. Bro got home and had entirely forgot! I’m normally the parent who makes the “bad”, impulsive decisions to get take-out but this time it was my husband. LOL. When my forgotten sushi roll came up, he suggested General Tso’s. Isaac drove us up to the place and once I’d eaten a sufficient amount of pork fried rice and krab rangoon, I was done. LOL. I mean, on the couch, dead asleep by 930. Funny part is I felt like I slept SO long but when Ash woke me to go upstairs, it was only 10:30. Consequently, the night felt long too. Though these days, I don’t sleep well. I’m like one of those convenience store hot dogs, rolling all night long.
My students are all turning in their long term visual projects this week and for the most part, they look great. Love when students allow themselves to be creative. I also made them all put them on display and reflect on the ideas. It made some of them nervous but oh well!

Well we’re retired and there are still plenty of things to feel anxious about lol. I think establishing a habit of prayer when you’re young helps all your life long. You always sound like you get a lot done on the weekends. Sorry about all the difficulties with your sister. Families are complicated and I think all have some element of drama. Hope you have a nice end of the school year!
I hope your mom is ok. We watched the fights on Saturday night. Well, sort of. We were at friends’ house but left around 11:00 before the women fought. My husband watched the women fight but I went to bed. I hope your Monday went well. Just four more days with the students. We’ve got this!!
