I saw this on another site and figured I’d do it…mostly because I am running away from other work I need to do.
EATING THIS WEEK: Well, Monday we had bratwursts, yesterday we had breakfast dinner but the kids had chicken alfredo. I am currently harassing my husband via text to tell me what he wants tonight. I want to make a lasagna at some point, since the kids like it. With eating mostly keto, that’s usualy a no-go.
REMINISCING ABOUT: Whenever we get close to the end of the school year, I get nostalgic about summers when the kids were littler. Summers were busy but fun and it was easy to make them happy. We could have cheese and crackers and fruit as a dinner and they’d be excited! A quick ice pop on the deck and they were placated. Now, everyone has too many opinions. LOL.
LOVING: These days (probably perimenopause related) I am having trouble enjoying much. But I guess I’ve been loving watching old movies I’d not seen.
BEEN UP TO: Surviving? Yeah, with only 3 weeks left in the term, we are cobbling life together. We’ve also been trying to be more productive during the evenings. I have been doing a lot of cleaning, we’re still walking, trying to run more, and then tinkering in the house.
DREADING: Checking an email. No more details but it’s been stressing me out.
WORKING ON: Finalizing my final exams for my classes. I knew it was time to start making them and then soon as I made one, we got the email asking for submissions. I cannot believe the school year is almost done!
EXCITED ABOUT: My bar is pretty low these days so let’s say…Friday. I want to have a beer and watch movies and not have the stress of the next school day weighing on me.
WATCHING/READING: We have watched a lot of movies lately but this week: River’s Edge and The Visitor. Both were pretty good. Reading, I took the advice of a blog friend and picked up Dear Committee Members. Definitely worth a read and it resonates with me because I too once worked in an English department.
LISTENING: Man, I find that when I am stressed, I don’t enjoy music. I still dial up SiriusXM in the car and it’s usually on Yacht Rock. I have run some Lorna Shore in the background while I grade, since I am seeing them next week. But not much has been exciting lately.
WEARING: Nothing new; all the same old stuff. Though, today I have on sandals for the first time in a while. Summer’s coming.
DOING THIS WEEKEND: Not much. My daughter had a pool party to attend but I think they’re shifting gears and doing a movie, due to rain. We are in a severe drought so while the rain precludes me from doing yardwork, we desperately need it. We’ll probably also brew.
LOOKING FORWARD TO: The end of school! While I do get paid for my regular teaching job all summer, I will have fewer online summer courses so in one way, that’s good – less mental load. Bad for money but hopefully a slower pace of life will result in less spending. I am also excited for our two week summer trip in June. (I know the question asked about May but I thought beyond that.)
WHAT ELSE IS NEW: My son got a new job! He got hired on with the pool company we use. I think it’s a step in the right direction for sure, for many reasons. A. Gets out of food service. B. Learns an actual skill C. Full time and a lot of autonomy. Once he’s trained, he gets his own route and a truck and it’s up to him to get his work done. Outside doing manual labor isn’t amazing but think about it: the people who own pools and hire a company are always in need of it and are usually people who have money. He’ll probably be making a lot more money too so maybe he can entertain moving out of my house at some point!
