A to Z Challenge – T is for Transmigration of Souls

As noted in the sign up post, I decided to highlight beers I have liked. I know this sounds very surface but a lot of my personal life/hobbies revolve around it. We are homebrewers and I have – as of today – 4,591 unique check-ins on the app, Untappd. I keep track of all beers and rate them there. So, without further ado – T!

Sadly, this is a beer no longer made, due to the fact the brewery closed. But Orpheus was, for a long time, a celebrated Atlanta brewery.

Orpheus Brewing closed its Midtown Atlanta taproom and brewery on Dutch Valley Road on April 23, 2023, after nearly nine years of operation. Founder Jason Pellett cited the need to shift brewing operations to Bevana, a North Carolina-based partner, while in-market beer availability continued. The closure was driven by financial pressures and industry challenges.

  • Closure Date: The taproom on Dutch Valley Road held its final day on April 23, 2023.
  • The Shift: Operations moved to a contract brewing partnership with Bevana to sustain the brand.
  • Reasons for Closing: Facing a slowdown in the craft beer market, rising costs for labor and materials, and difficult Georgia state regulations, the brewery reached an “inflection point”.
  • Legacy: Known for sour beers, saisons, and stouts, Orpheus was a staple in the Atlanta craft beer scene since 2014

So I guess they’re still producing but they’ve gone by the wayside, like so many recently, namely the newest merger between Stone and Firestone Walker/Duvel.

Anywho, this beer got a 3.75 from me but also, that was during a time I still enjoyed a hazy. At 10% and 85 IBUs, this is STRONG! I think in the end, I like the names of most IPAs way more than I like the beer!
