As noted in the sign up post, I decided to highlight beers I have liked. I know this sounds very surface but a lot of my personal life/hobbies revolve around it. We are homebrewers and I have – as of today – 4,591 unique check-ins on the app, Untappd. I keep track of all beers and rate them there. So, without further ado – R!
Yes, the name of that beer is quite the mouthful! So, for a while there, the club was running some meetings for members to study up on becoming beer judges. We planned score sheets and style guidelines per the BJCP and attempted to get their commercial examples of “to style” beers so they could see what it ought to smell and taste like. For 3B, Czech Premium Pale Lager, obviously there’s Pilsner Urquell, but there was also this, Radegast. (No, not the brown wizard of Tolkien fame). I couldn’t find that one here in America but…
…one of the evenings when we were in Prague, nearly burned out on vacation, as our 14 days drew to a close, Ash said he’d read on Reddit about a little bar in New Town that the locals went to. It was quite a ways from our airbnb but we made the hike. U Kocoura was definitely a locals only type place. We sat in the very back and looked at their menu and wouldn’t you know it: they had Radegast! I was super excited to order something I’d previously tried to track down. I took but one photo here and it was this:
That was the bathroom door but why does the pinky look broken?? I sent it to my daughter because she broke her finger when she was 3 and it looks like that! We had a few Radegasts, which I gave a 3.75, and then ended up talking to a slightly pretentious older couple who ended up being from Canada.
It was a cool little spot and I liked checking the box on a to-style Czech pils.
