Friday Five – The never-ending cold

  1. I am NOT feeling amazing today. It seems to be sinus issues because the weather keeps shifting. I’m allowing my students some catch-up time in class because a lecture is definitely not happening. I think it’s the mid quarter 3 drudgery and they need a break, as do I.
  2. That said, I’ve premeditated a day off on Monday. I kind of feel bad but hey, everyone needs a break now and then. My house needs my attention! Literally, I have a long list of small things to accomplish such as: put the folded towels away in the linen closet upstairs, return socket wrench to its place in the garage, thin out my aloe and replant it in the big pot outside, where the large aloe has now died from the cold, wash the myriad glasses from upstairs (this was in a list I made in another post; it’s never-ending!)
  3. Anyone have Superb Owl plans? Yes, I am aware of how I wrote it. We’re supposedly having a party – people asked and we said sure – but I am suspect. People talk a big game but then don’t show up. I’ll enjoy it either way since I enjoy football. I do fear it is going to be a boringly defensive game, however. And the commercials are never as good as they once were.
  4. My teaching observation went well yesterday. Sadly, only two kids were in class (to be fair, it’s a small school and this one only has seven anyway; I lost two at the start of the quarter – they went to other schools). But the principal was ok watching me teach to just the two. The lesson went well and apparently, she went right to our college advisor and was downright giddy about the fact I’m teaching research. She even wants to devise a new research class to offer. So yeah, I must be doing something right.
  5. Story of my life: I look at the calendar and note some “free” weekends – no plans! And now, those are filling up. We have two trips to Gainesville soon, then we added the Spring Break New Orleans one; it’s always something but as I typically say: if I wan’t doing this stuff, how bored would I be??

  1. It must have been a huge relief to have the observation go well. That sounds stressful! How nice to have small class sizes. That is one definite advantage of private schools! Though my long term sub job was for an Intervention Specialist and she (so I) had very small classes which was lovely. You and your husband will stay busy even when you’re empty nesters due to your beer brewing/competitions. We don’t really have anything like that and we went from super busy to not busy at all but I’ve adjusted pretty well to the less busy phase. Have a great weekend- I can’t believe someone asked you to host a party?? I hope it goes well!!

  2. Nice to have that observation checked off, I bet!

These days, I find my self pronouncing Superbowl “Superb Owl”. When did that trend begin, anyway?? No parties planned, but we’ll probably have it on.
