Wednesday ‘Podge – late but present

From this Side of the Pond

1. What do birthdays look like in your house? How are they celebrated? Any special traditions? What about birthdays growing up?

These days, not much. My boys don’t want parties anymore. My daughter does and the past few years we have done something revolving around the pool with a tropical theme. One thing we always do is the birthday person gets to choose where we eat out as a family. But even that is getting difficult, with my oldest always working. We don’t do it on the day as much now.

Growing up, I only recall a few special birthdays where I had a lot of people over. But it was mostly just a small sleepover.

2. Someone is sending you a dozen roses…what color are you hoping for? Are you someone who gets accused of seeing the world through rose colored glasses? Is your accuser correct? Elaborate.

Hmm, probably some form of orange or yellow would be my preference.

I don’t think I see the world that way, honestly. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being optimistic but at the same time, you can’t be so much in that direction that it leads you in false ways.

3. June 4th is National Cheese Day…will you celebrate? What’s something (besides a burger) you make in the summer months that calls for cheese?

Oh I do love me some cheese, though not sure how I’d celebrate other than probably eating something cheesy. I can’t think of a specific summer thing that calls for cheese but lately, we’ve been making homemade pizza so of course, mozzarella. The other day I made something I found on Pinterest called Arizona cheese crisp, which was a tortilla brushed with butter, crisped in the oven, then covered in cheese and green chilies. Really good!

4. ’tis the season…any weddings on your June calendar? What’s the first word that comes to mind when I say marriage?

No, none to speak of. First thing that comes to mind is the word committment.

5. What are you most looking forward to this June?

Hmm, well, I’m looking forward to getting through it! There’s a lot going on, personally, and any number of things could turn around this month. SO I guess I am looking forward to hopefully, a change.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

It’s gloomy out today, which is not helping my already dour mood. It’s funny though because I am aware of both my bad mood and how I know I could turn it around right now if I wished.

If you read my post yesterday, it was a cursed day. First, the accident on my bike. Sure, I didn’t actually get hit by the truck but in avoiding it, I did fall and hurt myself. (You can read the whole story in my random Tuesday post)

Then, the new phones arrived so Isaac and I each grabbed one of the three new Pixels and began moving info over. I was thankful that I could transfer everything from the old phone even though I didn’t have access to the screen anymore. A cable was all it took. Anyway, I did that and set out to activate them, but somehow his number went to the phone I had and vice versa! So I had to call ATT support to get them to swap them. Sigh. Isn’t it always something??

All in all though, the day turned around I suppose. I had a glass of Buffalo Trace and Ash and I watched a movie. I was tired and sore though so it was early to bed.

This morning, I couldn’t quite get started. I’m sure it’s hormones making me feel both very hungry and emotional. I came home after taking my daughter to camp and made myself some cheese grits with a nice runny egg on top, and I ate it on the deck. Weather hasn’t been too bad lately, considering how far into the year we are.

The plan we had for today is I am going to make a pizza and take it to Ash at work and he and I will eat in the park across from his building. I am not entirely sure how I am going to get this hot pizza to him and keep it warm but I am sure I will come up with something!

  1. A pizza picnic in the park sounds fun!! You know this is a powerful sentence: “I am aware of both my bad mood and how I know I could turn it around right now if I wished.” We would all be better people if we could remember that we always have choices. (I’m talking to myself!)

  2. It is so much harder to arrange birthday fun when our kids get older.
I hope you get through June OK. I’ve just read about your biking accident. How scary, I am glad you are OK.

  3. Homemade pizza is so good! I make it almost every week so I stock mozzarella in my cheese drawer :). My son stopped wanting birthday get togethers past the age of thirteen. It was sad but whatever he wanted to do was fine with me, ultimately. Your birthdays were a bit like mine growing up. Every few years, I’d have a party with friends but that was not an every year thing. Hope your day is turning around :).

  4. I think what you’ve said about turning around a bad mood is so true. Generally we know what we need to do, but we sometimes just want to stay in our mood. I think we all understand that. I hope a picnic in the park helped brighten your day.

  5. Your Arizona Cheese crisp sounds real good. I love easy snacks/meals like that. Sorry about your bike accident yesterday. Hope the day is getting brighter for you.
