As noted in the sign up post, I decided to highlight beers I have liked. I know this sounds very surface but a lot of my personal life/hobbies revolve around it. We are homebrewers and I have – as of today – 4,582 unique check-ins on the app, Untappd. I keep track of all beers and rate them there. So, without further ado – M!
Marone, by Pensacola based brewery, Alga, is an Italian Pilsner that I had right around the time we were really getting into those. While not an actual BJCP sanctioned style (it’s considered a 27B, mixed style) an Italian Pilsner can be described as a light lager with a lot of body and hop character. Most people might equate it to Peroni, though I am not fond of that at all. You may find some in the stores; a lot of craft breweries were churning them out for a while. My personal favorite is called Foamstack from Inner Voice in Decatur, GA.
Anyway, we love Alga and have since they opened. Residing in the East Hill area of Pensacola, they are a walkable brewery with a nice layout, good vibes, and fantastic beer. They used to come to some of the fests near us but they also have problems with people politically so they refrain. Oh well; we get to visit when we go to see my parents.
We partook in Marone at the St. George Island beerfest in 2024; I gave it a 4 and Ash, a 4.25. This coming weekend, we’re headed back to SGI and I hope Alga will be there! Below, a pic of that fest. I hate that it’s in a parking lot. When we went last time, I got my taster GLASS (why glass??) and immediately dropped it, before I ever had any beer! It shattered, needless to say, on the pavement.

Did they give you another glass?
