Hello Monday – Long weekend

Not like, we had an extra day but the weekend felt long!
Ash and I left around 2 on Friday and headed to Apalachicola. Last time we went we enjoyed some good beer but, sadly, not this time! Just some mediocre stuff. Eastpoint clearly gave up and the new places, Watercraft and Buoy, are just mid. But I do think we had fun over there. Ran into a couple people/friends from the club and ate some food, listened to music. They were having a little music fest that night as well, before the big beer fest on SGI the next day.

Saturday, our plan was to get up and walk on the beach early…which we did but only for a mile and after having some bacon and eggs at the Beach Pit. Not a bad way to start the day! We knocked around the airbnb for a little while before driving back over to the island to park and assume our place in the line. It was pretty warm when you couldn’t feel the breeze but nice otherwise. This is not my favorite fest – they just don’t have a lot of good vendors – but we had a nice time. We knew about seven people there, not counting pro-brewers who we’ve become friends with. And we also made a connection with the guy from a newer brewery and we might collab with them, so that was cool. When it ended, we drove to our friend’s beach house and he’d made crockpot chili. While it wasn’t exactly chili weather, it was a good way to end the day! We drank a ton of water and ate but then we were both exhausted and ended up just going to sleep at 6:30! I know it sounds weird but we figured whenever we woke up, we’d just pack up and head home. With no traffic at the butt-crack of dawn, we made it home in a little over an hour and 30 minutes. (FYI, I took zero photos of the fest and actually, only one at the beach. I lived in the moment.)

That was pretty nice – being home before 6 and getting my coffee, some time to relax, and then laundry started. We had another long day ahead of us, since we’d planned Isaac’s birthday things. We picked up his two friends around 10:30 then headed into town to Urban Air. He’d originally picked going to a movie but then decided to do something more active. We got the boys dropped off then Ash and I walked the mall until the food court opened. We had lunch then went home and I drove back for the boys. They walked from Urban Air to the mall where I met them then got their lunch. It was a lot of driving around town but I got them back home, then returned home myself to finally relax! We watched “Re-Animator” from the 80s, which was a cool “horror” with a lot of neat practical effects. Would recommend.

The evening was dedicated to finishing laundry and taking kids to youth group and, well, relaxing. The Sunday blues set in not too long after lunch time so I had to waylay those as best I could. In all actuality we have only five weeks of school left, and one of those is dedicated to finals. We get out on May 22nd. There’s a homebrew competition that Ash and I will be working that weekend, then we have Memorial Day and 3 teacher in-service days before I am free!

  1. I bet these last weeks of the school year will fly. I’m glad you enjoyed your getaway and beer fest. I’ve never been to Apalachicola or that part of Florida. Happy birthday to your son!

  2. We get out of school the exact day that you do. Teachers have to work a couple of extra days but since I’m “just” subbing, I don’t think I’ll have to. Your weekend sounds nice- how fun to get to relax on the beach. We can do that… but only by traveling hours to get to the nearest beach :). I think going to sleep at 6:30 pm may have been a highlight for me!!
