Wednesday Hodgepodge – Cold morning blogging

From this Side of the Pond

1. It’s National Popcorn Day-my favorite! Are you a fan? Sweet or salty? A good or great movie you’ve seen recently (at home or in a theater, either one)?

You know, it’s a food I think smells better than it tastes. Regular butter kind, I can usually only eat a handful or so. I enjoy caramel corn more but rarely eat it. Recently, I enjoyed the new Ghostbusters but we also liked Don’t Look Up.

2. What’s something you didn’t realize was going to take so much of your time as an adult?

Hmm, this is a tough one. Maybe just wrapping your mind around what it means to be an adult. It’s a constant learning process so really, it takes ALL the time.

3. Your favorite yellow something?

Hmm, also a tough one. Yellow is not a color I see often but I will say, I find yellow houses very cute. But if we’re talking something I interact with often, let me say egg yolks because yum!

4. Why do you write?

I do! I blog, journal, and I’d like to actually write a dang book someday. I am not saying I can or will BECAUSE I have a degree in writing but because I enjoy it and have been writing fiction since I was little. I know I could totally bang out a romance novel but I am also worried about what all that entails.

5. Share a favorite memory associated with snow

Let’s get it out of the way now: I hate the cold so it goes without saying, no snow for me. But a good memory was when I legit saw it for the first time in 2004. Ash took me to his hometown of Perrysburg, Ohio and we visited his brother in Bowling Green. This was around Christmas and when it finally snowed a lot, we went to his childhood friend’s parents’ home and the mom, upon learning I had never seen nor played in snow (I’m a Floridian!), took me outside and made me play in it, putting snowballs in my hands! That whole trip was awesome because Ash proposed to me on Christmas day but I still recall how I felt finally seeing snow. It was still too damned cold but very pretty. Here’s a pic of me at that time. I know it’s small but again, 2004!

6. Insert your own random thought here.

We had a very nice weekend! On Saturday, we had three soccer games pretty much back to back then we got home and packed the car to head to my parents’ house. When we got there, Ash and my dad and I went to a place called Goat Lips that had food and beer. The beer was lackluster but the chips and salsa and atmosphere were top notch. We had spaghetti later and my sister and her b/f came and we had our second Christmas. The next day, Ash and I hit Big Top brewery then met everyone else for a late lunch. We made enchiladas on Monday then we headed home in the afternoon. It was a nice little trip but I was glad to be home; I have stuff to do.

I’m still on the hunt for other online opportunities. I just applied to a remote position with Tervis tumbler, if you’ve heard of those. They’re a Florida thing but have gotten a lot bigger. I also applied – once again – to this online college that I have legit applied to countless times before, nary a reply I’ve gotten. I don’t know what it is about them that they don’t want me! But here I am, on the struggle bus, to get additional work. I knew this was a risk when I took it and until this term, it had always worked out ok. Le sigh.

The other fun thing today is that Ash’s car wouldn’t start so he’s got mine and after I work some, I will get the insurance to send a guy. And then? After I get his car to the Autozone to see if it is indeed battery, I am totally eating Chipotle. I was amazed that I didn’t even gain weight over the weekend so I think I can handle a big fat chicken bowl. Oh yeah!

  1. Popcorn does smell good unless you burn it. 🙂
Seeing it snow for the very first time is amazing! I didn’t even think of egg yolks. There are lots of things I don’t think of. Glad you had a nice weekend. I love soccer. Happy hodgepodge to you.

  2. I want to see the new Ghostbusters movie but still haven’t been to a show since covid started. We enjoyed Don’t look Up also. Yes, a yellow egg yolk is yummy. I grew up in Illinois so I remember the snow very well. Living in Southern CA we can visit the snow in the winter in about a 40 minutes. Sounds like you had a great weekend except for the car issue.

  3. Sounds like a good, busy weekend. I can’t imagine not ever seeing snow! It’s good in East TN: it snows, it melts usually in the same day. The cold never stays around for long!
