MMMM + Darn good weekend/no complaints

That’s right; I enjoyed my weekend entirely. It’s nice to be able to report that, you know?

I’m trying to remember what we did Friday; feels like we did something… oh yes! That’s right. So Isaac went to the Northtown Get-down with a friend so the rest of us had spaghetti and then took a walk. There’s a nice one mile loop in the neighborhood we like. As we passed the local park. just at late dusk, a family came out from their house and told us that the International Space Station would be flying over us any minute. I’m a sucker so we stuck around and watched. The family had two kids – the little girl Dakota apparently knew from camp. So we chatted with them a little bit then got home just in time for Isaac to be dropped back off.

Saturday was the first weekend of the boy’s flag football games so we were at the fields from 8 to 11:45. Elliot has a double-header so that’s why it was so long. Isaac’s team won (his coach is a former NFL player and his kid is ridiculous) and Elliot’s team went 1-1. We went to Sonny’s for lunch and then went home to watch college football. I have to say, I took THE best nap that I can ever remember. I don’t know if it was the beer and the barbecue settling in my belly or what but when I woke up two hours later, I just felt so refreshed. My oldest went over to a friend’s house and after I dropped him off, I was struck with a debilitating headache. Great nap, then awful headache. Eh, that’s the way of the world, I guess. It eventually went away and all was well.

On Sunday, I got up and got ready to run three miles then as soon as I was done and showered, Ash and I brewed a red ale. It smells good so far, so we’ll see how it turns out. Our last two beers were very good. The Dos Equis Amber clone was spot on and the Pale Ale (based on Sierra Nevada’s flagship ale) is also excellent. We’ve made reds before so hopefully we did a good job. We focused more on the mash and transfer temps so we’ll see. We mostly watched pro ball in the afternoon but I also got some writing done and some cleaning, though it seems like my house is in a constant state of clean then messy. But when you have kids, that’s just how it is.

Freebie Week!

You want more Volbeat? Well you’re getting it. The new album really does kick ass. Catchy songs, man.

I know you guys won’t like this one but Corey Taylor’s pain resonates with me in so many ways in this song. I know it’s like, nine years old but I friggen’ love it.

  1. Super weekends are very good medicine! Glad to hear about your dam good weekend! lol Never heard your tunes, but I really like the first one. Thanks for sharing! HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

  2. Claire,

I haven’t made home-made spaghetti in a long time. I’m gonna have to correct this by making us some really soon. Right now, we’re both on mini-diet reducing calories to drop a few pounds which is easier to put on than take off. I always enjoy your Volbeat song picks. Slipknot is a bit too rackety for my ears but I do appreciate the introduction all the same. đŸ™‚ Thanks for joining us on the 4M dance floor, my dear. Have a boogietastic week!

  3. I may end up being the only Music Moves Me person who likes this Slipknot song. I would never go to one of their concerts and I’m not the biggest fan of their music (I’ve heard a couple of songs from Unsainted) but from the first time I heard that song oh how many years ago it just grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. Hadn’t heard the Slipknot song. Admiring your brewing skills. I could use a brew just about now.

  4. Glad you had a great weekend! And more so that the sudden headache went away. đŸ™‚ I love that you guys brew beer – isn’t it funny how the more you do it, you pay more attention to the mash and transfer temps – same goes for winemaking, even a few degrees off can alter the flavor of the whole wine. I really need to get my winemaking room set up, I’m jonesin’ to get back into the winemaking full time again! đŸ™‚

Loved your Volbeat choice, and I actually enjoyed your Slipknot song, too, because Princess Nagger is into that sort of music and hijacks the stereo in the car on the way to her therapy appointments with those types of songs on her phone. đŸ˜‰

Hope this weekend is turning out to be as stellar as last weekend! đŸ™‚

    1. That’s awesome she likes that! I feel like rock is a dying breed and we must keep it alive. And yes, each time we brew, we get better but more specific about stuff. Conversely, I have been making kombucha and it is a whole lot less finicky about that stuff. Just ferment and go.
