Wednesday Hodgepodge – Summer immersion

1. It’s officially summer (in the northern hemisphere anyway). Which summer month is best and why?

I’m going to go with June for a few reasons. Here, in north Florida, it’s hot but not AS hot as July, August, and September. June means there are fewer people in town so life is a little bit slower. We are still excited about school being over and the prospect of the pool and the beach and summery drinks. It starts to drag at the end of July and come mid-August, the kids – and parents – are SO ready for school.

2. Can you swim? How did you learn? June 27th is National Sunglasses Day. How many pair do you own?

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say MOST people who grew up in Florida know how to swim. I took lessons early on at a local high school and I was even on the swim team in middle school.

I own three pair of sunglasses: one without an RX and two with, though one ended up being too small so it’s a car back-up.

3.What characteristic do you judge most harshly in yourself? How about in others?

Hmm, in others, usually just things that are annoying: not being courteous, being a bad speller, being unaware of others. In myself, I am very harsh on my loyalty, even though I am a very loyal person. I worry I might do something that seems like I am ignoring or forgetting someone.

4. Robert Frost wrote the now well known poem entitled The Road Not Taken. What’s a road (literal or figurative) you’ve always wanted to travel, and where do you hope it takes you?

I guess I’ll say the road of risk-taking in terms of a job. When we were in Nashville, we really liked the area and neighborhoods and thought about how it would be cool to move. But I am VERY concerned about change and I don’t let it ever happen. I sometimes wish I felt more pro-active about that.

5. Popsicles-yay or nay? If you answered yay, what’s your favorite flavor?

Yes! We dominate those Flavor-ice 100 packs. I also like actual Otter pops, but seem to have difficulty finding them. I usually like red/orange/lemon flavors the best.

6.Brexit-on a scale of 1-10 how knowledgeable are you on what’s involved here? (1=very knowledgeable and 10=what’s Brexit) Is this news you’ll follow or is it something you think won’t impact your life in any way shape or form?

I looked it up two days ago because we’d been on vacation so I know what it is now; I’m gonna put myself at about a 6. I doubt I’ll be following it bu I do approve. What is to be gained by being brought down by the other countries?

7.Share a favorite song on your summer play list.

Oh God, anything by Jimmy Buffett but let’s go with Happily Ever After.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

As I detailed yesterday, I am definitely not on vacation anymore. Nope, I’m in my office right now. It’s actually really nice to be home after a week of solo parenting, five days away, two days home, and another four days away, most of which was spent in a car. So yeah, I’m here, I’m ready to work and I am SO glad I taught in the first part of summer and I don’t have to now. It’s time for a break!
