Wednesday Hodgepodge – Spring Break edition

Well, it’s MY Spring Break. The kids’ is next week.

I don’t know what is going on with my spacing this week but I am too lazy to fix it.

1. March is National Women’s History Month. In that vein, who are three women who’ve been influential in your life? How so?
Hmm, tough. I don’t have a lot of female people in my life and certainly not influential ones. I mean, I am pretty sure I HAVE to say my mother. She has been influential in both positive and negative ways; in showing me what to be and perhaps not.
I honestly cannot name two more but let’s just say that women I admire are ones who aren’t afraid to buck tradition; go against what we think women “ought” to do.
2. In what ways do you think women have it easier than men?

Ugh, THIS question. I don’t know if anyone “has it easier” than anyone else. We THINK women have it easier because men like to believe they’re “weaker” or “incapable” so we get out of doing stuff but to me, that’s not the right way to go about stuff. I think men have it easier in so so many ways. They don’t have to birth children and are hardly ever expected to do ALL THE THINGS in the house. I know times are changing… but still.

3. What do you need most right now: faith, love, hope, or peace?

I’m going to go with peace. My life is very fast-paced so whenever I can get a moment of true quiet and calm, I take it.

4. Do you have a collection? If so, what do you collect and why?

I used to collect pens and pencils. I had a bad habit of finding crazy ones and spending money when I shouldn’t have – like the cash mom would give me on a field trip for food. For a time I collected action figures of all sorts. Now I just have small collections of nerdy things. And a huge collection of pictures of Iron Maiden. LOL. But those don’t take up any physical space.

5. Plaids, checks, polka dots, stripes…your favorite?

Gonna go with plaid here. I like that preppy look, though I don’t often pull it off.

6. In what ways are you the same as your childhood self?

I remember being very competitive and always up for a game when I was young and there’s a lot of that still left in me. It comes out of me if we play Scrabble or corn hole.

7. You’re a contestant on the TV game show Jeopardy. What category will you ace?

I usually do very well at anything pop culture, music, arts, literature, etc. You give me an 80s music category, I’ll destroy it. If you really want to see me run a category, make it 80s hair bands. I’ll challenge any one of ya to a duel. And I’ll win. 🙂

8. Insert your own random thought here.

The talks of moving have come again. We need to figure out a plan of action here. Rent our home? Rent another home in the meantime and then look to buy in two years? That actually sounds like the best plan, to be honest. But I think we’re both a little worried about starting the whole process. Our house definitely needs a bit of work – more if we try to sell. Ugh! Being a homeowner is so much to think about. We’ve been in our house for ten years and I still don’t know how to begin this process!

  1. Move- the word just sends shivers up my spine. Our home values are quite high and the Prince has thrown out the idea of selling, but we would have a ton of work to do. I prefer not even thinking about it all and just staying where we are. Will hold you in prayer as moving is no fun. I have a pen and pencil collection at school- I collect them off the floor after class so I will have something for those who don’t have anything to write with. Have a toad-ally awesome day!

  2. I’m also a little too competitive still when it comes to games. Well, I don’t think there’s any such thing, but apparently my family does : ) Good luck with your move/rent decision. Buying and selling comes with a huge amount of stress and a bajillion decisions and a whole lot of waiting, but it’s one of those things you have to just put your head down and get through. I’m sure you’ll figure out the best way forward.

  3. I have never heard of corn hole, and with your Jeopardy categories, you would beat me hands down! LOL I totally understand the dilemma about your home. I often have the same questions and we’ve been here 25 years. We need wisdom. I can relate to a collection of pens and pencils. It’s hard for me to resist a good colored pencil or watercolor type pen. I really have to limit myself. LOL
