I wasn’t going to do this one but surprisingly, I have a lot of these that I try to live by. Let’s start with some from Dale Carnegie, the author of How to Win Friends and Influence People. He also wrote How to Stop Worrying and Start Living, which is a lot better than his “famous” book, in my opinion.
1. Don’t be afraid to give your best to what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones will tend to take care of themselves.
I like this one because I try to do my best. I used to half-ass stuff and hell, we all do sometimes, but I take a lot of pride in small accomplishments. It’s gotten me this far!
2. Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.
It’s true. Just when I think all hope is lost, something happens to make it OK. I whole-heartedly believe this.
3. One grain of sand at a time. One task at a time.
Yeah, don’t get ahead of yourself.

4. The notion that work is a burden is a terrible mistake.Working and facing up to one’s responsibilities: That’s Happiness.
Huh; wise words. I really like that idea. I have it on my office door because people are forever coming in here to complain about school work. I always want to remind them to be thankful for this time because it won’t always be just schoolwork and you. Or schoolwork and your significant other. Someday you’ll have car payments and mortgages and kids and dogs and all that other stuff. Maybe even more than one job. But I don’t want to sound like I am one-upping them so I say nothing.

5. The runner has a view of life that makes all the jogging and racing worthwhile.
I guess I like this because it reminds me that you have to want running and you have to fit it into your life but see it in a special way so you can keep doing it.

6. Believe that you can run farther or faster. Believe that you’re young enough, old enough, strong enough, and so on to accomplish everything you want to do. Don’t let worn-out beliefs stop you from moving beyond yourself.
I have to remember this sort of thing when I am out there, on the last stretch of a long run, and I want to quit. I know it’s mind over matter; my mind can control my body. I cannot wait to get back to running once this baby is out!
