So, Monday… we meet again. I feel, today, as if the weekend – you know – flew by, but I can tell you that Saturday felt excrutiatingly long. I don’t know why; I should be thankful for long days with the kids and not working. I’m struggling a lot with that lately: being ungrateful for all I truly have when it comes down to a moment where I feel put out. Must stop. We all know that we need to appreciate what we have and not complain, because that sure as hell doesn’t get you much.
ANYWAY, Ash ran Saturday morning and the kids and I… no, wait. I went to Target alone (!) early on, THEN Ash ran, and the kids and I went to the grocery store. Yeah, that’s right. I took Elliot to a birthday party in the afternoon and by the time that was done, it was late afternoon. I made a tasty lasagna and then we built a fire in the fire pit It was pretty cold out so it was nice to sit out there. We also made s’mores; yum! After the kids were in bed, I passed out on the couch by 9:30. For being the second trimester, I feel beat way too early in the evenings.
I woke up Sunday in a very foul mood, though there was no reason for it. The morning dragged on and then I shouted that I just wanted to go out to eat, dammit. And so we did: Mexican. And somehow, my children have entered a phase where they have forgotten how to behave in restaurants. I am SO looking forward to my birthday dinner sans children. I kind of think I deserve it. When we got back, the kids went down for a nap, I fell asleep on the couch, and woke feeling MUCH better. Also, the sun had finally come out so that helped. I took Elliot to tee ball practice at 2 and that was pretty cool. He has a much more innate sense of that sport than he did soccer. It’s nice to see him eager to participate and – honestly – a little ahead of some of the other kids. I don’t need him to be some kind of sports superstar, but it is nice to see him succeeding. We had our “big” meal for dinner (Costco chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, and bread) and, well, again I was asleep on the couch before 10. LAME! But I woke back up and Ash and I got sucked into a PBS special with that Suze Orman lady on it. I always did like her money advice so it was cool to watch.
Here I am, Monday morning, with a million tasks to accomplish this week. I get to meet with my department chair this afternoon to discuss how we’ll cover my desk while I’m on leave. Not fun; I’m paranoid about maternity leave. I know they can’t fire you but I still don’t like it. Anyway, onto the music, folks!
Since it’s a freebie week, I’ll just pull out some songs I have been listening to lately. They’re neither new nor super popular but I like ’em.
Ahh, hair ballads.
And Sade, because when I can’t think of anything else I want to listen to, she’ll do.
