So, remember that time when…

…Elliot got a bead stuck up his nose? Yeah, that would be today. I never took him for the kid who would do that. For all the common mishaps you hear about kids his age, he’s steered clear of most of them.

He was in rare form last night as he was awake three times between one and two AM. Mind you, he NEVER gets up in the night. Sometimes he’ll go pee but he’s up and done and back in bed in under 2 minutes. First, his leg hurt. He’d whined about it earlier in the evening and we pushed it off as “growing pains”, as our parents used to say. When the daycare number popped up on the phone, my first thought was that he’s still whining about his leg and something is Definitely Wrong. The other two times he crept down the hall and (not so) quietly knocked on our door, he was thirsty. I blame the regular full-fat popcorn we ate last night, upon seeing that 94% fat free kind was gone. It IS a lot saltier.

I was dragging this morning because I got the worst night’s sleep but he was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Ell’s not a trouble-maker but he is kind of a whiner so sticking a bead that far up his nose seems uncharacteristic to me. Hopefully they can dislodge it and he can move on with his day. Poor kid… though I’m somewhat disinclined to feel bad for him; self-inflicted and all. Plus my lack of decent sleep doesn’t help my overall attitude.

There’s something so cliche about him sticking an object up his nose. I’d believe it out of Isaac, who is proving to be a little mischievous. His new thing is getting something of yours – say, a shoe – walking over and showing it to you then running away, to hide it somewhere. All the while, laughing this cute little gigle that makes him so forgivable!

Ok so here’s the bead update: I retrieved him around 12:30 and took him to my insurance’s Urgent Care. We got right in and indeed, the bead was up there. For a little bit there, I wasn’t convinced. At any angle and with a flashlight, I wasn’t sure I saw anything. The “doctor” attempted to remove it but was unsuccessful. He has an 8 AM appointment in the Ear, Nose, and Throat office and Ash will be taking him, since I have to take my car to the dealership, on account of a braking system recall. Sigh. Just when I thought it couldn’t be worse…

…our washing machine drainage is blocked and it’s more than just the hose. Tomorrow, we’ll pop off the front and see if we can unblock it from the filter. I wouldn’t be devastated if we need a new one. We bought the pair in early 2004 and the washer has a rubber ring that’s ripped, causing some leakage out the front. It’s a Siemens which means it’s high end and super nice but also, expensive to have work done on it. We went through some boxes in the garage and Ash has some Warhammer figurines that could potentially sell for more than the cost of a new washer.  I just have to get on Ebay and get them sold!

So today wasn’t the best day in my life but I can’t say it ended all that horribly. I’m  about to lay down for the night and hopefully get a good night’s rest before tackling tomorrow. And my mantra as I fall asleep will be “tomorrow is another day.”

  1. Oh, so sorry about the nose thing. That’s one we avoided here–so far.
Hoping for a good washer outcome for you–either way!
