Wow, Thursday already

Must… get… ass… in gear.

I woke up feeling icky, as per usual these days, and also found it to be quite cold out: 27 with wind chill. Brrr. Luckily I don’t spend a lot of time out there before getting into my office. I got in, made some copies for my class, then went to class, which was exceedingly boring today. They gave presentations and although they were pretty good, I couldn’t pay attention. Maybe taking yesterday off didn’t do me as good as I thought; it just makes me want to take another day. I really liked having time to do what I wanted, to nap, to bake, to catch up. Unfortunately, we have to work for a living and I must keep reminding myself that I actually *do* like my job. But sometimes I like home just a bit more.

Valentine’s Day was pretty good. Ash pretended like he forgot to send me flowers. We went out to Bonefish (he had a bloody steak and I had salmon with lump crab and spinach on top) and then we went home tofinish watching Friends, season 9. Oh yeah, and then my flowers came. I knew he wouldn’t forget but he’s damn at fooling me into thinking he did. And now, for my aside on spinach. I am in love with this veggie. It is so much better than lettuce: better tasting, better for you. At El Chico, I get their spinach enchiladas and they taste oh-so fresh. I prefer it in salads and on sandwiches. It is by far my favorite vegetable.

And now that you know that about me, know this: it is the front desk girl’s birthday and they’re taking her to this Bamboo House place. I think I will go, just to get out of the office. So, off to work then off to eat.

  1. I like reading your blog because I get a different perspective about teaching. I’ve thought about doing it for a long time, but I am realizing that I don’t have the required patience and the tact . I’ve heard horror stories from various professors about students that truly suck. Have you had those kinds of students yet?

I love spinach in salads. Cooked spinach is slimy, and I am allergic to slimy foods.

  2. My teaching experience has varied greatly from semester to semester. I’ve had really smart classes, really fun and funny classes, and then, I have had horrible seemingly unintelligent classes. I sometimes lose my sense of tact and get worked up over their apparent lack of knowledge but it always ends up ok. The one good thing about teaching college kids is that you can tell them to get their shit together and they don’t tell on you; they know it’s true.

  3. And how. I have a student now I tactfully told to get shit together last week. And it’s not even spring break yet!

  4. Spinach is very high in 20-Beta-Hydroxyecdysterone, which in the proper concentrations can drastically increase lean body mass as well as speed metabolism as well as nerve function. Its great with ricotta as well πŸ™‚
