Wednesday ‘Podge – High summer ‘podge

1. What’s something you enjoy now that your younger self would never have appreciated?

Hmm, I’ll say either running or horror movies. As a younger person, I scoffed at running. Even though I was athletic and loved to run as a kid, when I got to be an overweight teen, I thought exercise was dumb. Similarly, I told myself I was scared of horror movies without really seeing them but now, I sort of enjoy some – not all. But the old 80s ones have some value I enjoy.

2. What was peaceful about today?

This is an oddly vague question. Since I am writing this on a Monday and it’ll post Wednesday (and even if I wrote it Wednesday it would be so early that “WAS peaceful” doesn’t apply, I’m going to say what was peaceful about yesterday, which would be Sunday! (Confusing I know) I went out to put something back into the pool shed and the sounds of ate evening were really nice, after a full day in the kitchen and watching movies/soccer.

3. It’s National Blueberry Day (July 8). Will you celebrate?  You can have one of the following right now-a slice of blueberry pie, a warm blueberry muffin, or a stack of blueberry pancakes…which do you choose?

I would take the muffin, but if we are being honest, I rarely eat any of those things. Now, I will eat a handful of blueberries fairly often.

This or that-blueberries or raspberries? blueberries or strawberries?

I like all 3! I don’t want to choose.

4. Do you need a break? From what?

Actually, travel. We took that vacation, then came home for a couple days and went back out to Atlanta. I was just thinking how I don’t want to do much traveling at all this month.

5. What has surprised you most about getting older?

Hmm, I guess that my brain is still “young”. I think like a younger person but sometimes my body feels older than it thinks.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Today got away from me! I woke up way early and couldn’t go back to sleep so I went ahead and went downstairs. After we did our normal morning walk, I took Dakota to camp, got gas, went to Lowe’s for something, then home. Isaac and I did some yardwork before the sun got too high and then went to the store. I had a leftover bratwurst I knew needed eating so I threw it into a huge salad: butter lettuce, mushrooms, cauliflower, celery, a little cheese, and I found a really nice-looking heirloom tomato, that I have not seen at my normal grocery store before. We were going to watch a movie but I had a hankering for ginger ale (I NEVER drink soda!) so instead, I went up to the gas station. I’m pretty picky; it is Canada Dry or nothing. I know my station at the roundabout doesn’t have it so I went another four minutes up the road to the other one and found it. I’m slowly getting back to better eating after the vacations but one step at a time. LOL. Keto salad but a soda isn’t TOO bad for one day.

There’s no soccer today which is both sad and a relief; we have watched almost all the games since June 11th and it’s been a lot! There have been some surprise endings, which is why I love sport. The internet would have you believe it’s rigged but if it was, then both Messi AND Ronaldo would have won and, well, Spain is just a better team than Portugal. The Switzerland win was a huge surprise to me as well. Looking forward to the next round.

On an entirely different note, (and maybe I talked about this?) I got reeled into buying a bathing suit from an Instagram ad. I liked the shorts and tank combo and it looked like it was for women my age who are not “fat” but have a little extra around the midsection. Anyway the price was right so I ordered it and promptly forgot until I got my shipping notification. At that point, I realized it was coming from Italy! They sent a lot of tracking updates from my purchase date, 5/27, until June 22nd, where I stopped getting updates. I emailed the company and they wrote back saying that seemed weird and they’d send me another one. I got a new tracking number and everything but now, nothing from THAT one either! I will either never get it or I’ll end up with two! I just hope they arrive before summer is over.

  1. Yummy! Heirloom tomatoes are the best!! I was talking to another staff member who is in his 20’s. I told him that sometimes I forget I’m not his age hahaha! Please keep us posted on the bathing suit saga!

  2. That salad sounds good! I hope you get your swimsuit. I ordered some craft kits from an ad and they took a month to arrive 🙃

  3. I hope you get a bathing suit or two!! I can see how you would be traveled out for a while… Your salad sounds good 🙂

  4. I hope you get your swimsuit so you can actually use it this summer. I’m not much of a traveler which surprises me because I traveled a lot in my younger years and loved it. I just get so comfortable at home, these days.

  5. I love the heirloom tomatoes. The suit may turn up yet. My daughter had me order her a purse one year for Christmas and then once I ordered realized it was coming from China (I check now). ugh. I told her she could forget it, but hey it showed up in February as a happy surprise. We’re looking forward to a couple of weekends at home now too.

  6. I used to love horror movies when I was younger but now even a slightly scary one will give me nightmares. That is the first time I have heard someone say they want a break from travel. It sounds like you’ve had a busy time of it. That tomato is impressive. I was quite sad there was no football on yesterday and have watched almost every match. I think it’s rigged when it comes to Argentina, the refs have been really soft on them compared to other teams.

  7. After the USA game on Monday night, I went through a little bit of soccer withdrawal, not gonna lie. I wasn’t happy about the Argentina win, either, and I think somehow that was rigged. But we still have a few more games to go, so we shall see! My favorite game so far has been Argentina vs. Cape Verde! I love a good underdog!

  8. I think sometimes when items hit customs in the country they are going to, it gets hard to track and it can take FOREVER. My hubby has done this with some shoes, even though I warned him not to order them..lol. Wow…all the games. I haven’t watched near as many as I would’ve liked to. I have watched more in the last few weeks. On monday when the US was playing, I was working so I brought my computer to stream it..haha.
