Hello Monday – post-holiday

Hi all and happy Monday. You all back to work today? Me, as a teacher, still knocking around the house and grateful for every day. My husband got Thursday through today off because our governor is amazing so he is still home as well. My oldest went back to work and my youngest went to camp. Anyway…

…my weekend. Friday was pretty fun. After I got all my work done, and had gone to the store for brats and whatnot, I realized I was feeling exasperated by everything so I just put my suit on and sat outside. Eventually, my daughter came out and later on, Ash did. I have recently been seeing a lot of things (which maybe we all already knew) about the hidden cancer-causing chemicals in sunscreen so I purposely chose not to wear any. I got in the water often and in the shade too, as well as wore a hat. My face looks great but I did definitely burn! That’s ok; base tan.

I can’t recall what all we did that evening. I think it was soccer viewing. Maybe we watched a movie? I don’t know.

Saturday morning we went to Lowe’s early to try and solve the aforementioned mower problem. The nut that attaches to a bolt on the handle got lost. Ash and I went early and fixed that so the kids could mow the back. Ash had a sandwich and I cleaned around the house; we were killing time before a party. I was thankful to be invited. It’s one of my long-time friends and she was just having family over for the fourth but since my son was already going, she had us over as well.

They have a nicer (newer) pool than ours so that was nice, not to be the host for once. We had bbq and whatnot and a great time. After leaving there, we swung by the house to grab my oldest then headed to our friends’ house where they always do fireworks on the 4th.

Sunday was Ash’s birthday so I spent from about 8:30 to 12 in the kitchen making his birthday Thanksgiving meal. It was entirely exhausting too and once we’d all eaten, I was tired! We did sit down to watch Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, which was a disaster. They took a different approach and it wasn’t scary at all, just dumb. It was then time for soccer, which we watched all evening. A friend came over for a little while as well and we bowled with our oldest son in between watching the games. The kids rarely bowl with us so that was kind of nice!

I took my daughter to camp then came home and did a 2 mile walk but it is definitely getting into the heat of the summer. By 9 it was already too hot, but I still did it. I’m doing a little work because I don’t know what all we have planned. I am definitely eating leftovers; the fridge is jam packed. The US soccer game is tonight so I know we’ll be in for that.

  1. We are planning to watch the game tonight, too. We’ve never been fans of soccer, but have enjoyed watching USA. I actually watched a movie this weekend – The Sheep Detectives haha!

  2. I thought the same way about our friends inviting us to their mostly family get together on the 4th. Hosting is a lot of work- I’m glad we have a nice space for it but it was lovely to be the guest. Our friends worked so hard to put on a great party and I appreciated it so much! Your weekend sounds nice- I hope your husband had a good birthday and appreciated his Thanksgiving meal!

  3. We are very often the hosts and I agree it is nice to be the guest now and then. Thanksgiving dinner cooking and clean up is a job! It is so nice you do this for your hubs birthday and I bet he does appreciate the effort and the meal both. A labor of love!
