A to Z Challenge – U is for Ubik

As noted in the sign up post, I decided to highlight beers I have liked. I know this sounds very surface but a lot of my personal life/hobbies revolve around it. We are homebrewers and I have – as of today – 4,591 unique check-ins on the app, Untappd. I keep track of all beers and rate them there. So, without further ado – U!

It was tough to find a “U” beer; I have only 10 that made into the 3.75 and above category.

This American IPA (not my favorite style) comes from my favorite Atlanta brewery, Halfway Crooks. Oh y’all, this place is IT. They specialize in my fave, light lagers, but make a few other styles such as this. We make a point to go whenever we’re in town. Now, a vast majority of their beer names come from nerdy computer related things from decades past, but this one refers to:

Ubik is a 1969 science fiction novel by Philip K. Dick, known for its mind-bending plot involving corporate espionage, psychic powers, and a mysterious substance called Ubik that can reverse entropy and reality shifts

Now that is a creative name! While their other beers are better, I was so bold as to give this IPA a 3.75 back in 2024, a time when I was vehemently starting to hate that style. I can still be fair to a good beer though so this rating is legit.

Below, a pic of one of their Czech pilsners served in the “Snyt” style, half beer, half foam and then the Mliko, which is almost all foam but actually better!
