- When last week began and I had the “Just 15 more school days” outlook, days went by insanely fast; I was surprised each day when it was time to go. This week, however, has been about as slow as thick molasses. I should not complain, however, since we are still doing party prep and I need that time.
- Last evening, I got home and made food and then we went out searching for items to bring our annual Christmas party together – mainly, prizes for the games we organize, as well as the ugly sweater contest. One of these years I will get ahead on this and not be scrambling!
- We watched Train Dreams last night, as it is new and some are touting it as the best movie of the year. Eh, perhaps not. It was good but not great; it didn’t ‘get’ me in any heartbreaking way. The end was poignant but it was just not enough emotion. Similarly, we watched No Other Choice the other day, which was good – again – but not great. I still contend the best movie of the year for me was Twinless.
- This may be in poor taste but you want to hear something ironic? My school just hired a full time security guy to patrol and here’s his name…are you ready? It’s… Officer… George Floyd. And I leave you with that; no comment from me!
- We’re doing a Secret Santa here at work starting next week and I have either gotten or have ordered all my items. I thought it was cool that they had a whole sheet to fill out but even then, I had to employ a student to do some recon for me. So I ended up buying this person (our principal’s assistant) some dark chocolate, a Home Alone ornament, a funny coloring book, and a bottle of red wine. These should fit within her preferences pretty well. Plus, she is one of the people I have gotten to know in my short months here.
- In fact, she is buying our exercise bike from us. We got to talking about them and I mentioned we have a nice one but don’t use it anymore, since RAGBRAI is done and we are back to running. So her husband is coming later today to pick it up. This clears a space in the room it’s been in!!
- Now, I need to catch up on logging beer cans. Since we collect, we have a database to keep track but I am SO behind. That’s a goal for Christmas break.
- Another goal I have is to reshoot my lectures for one of my college jobs. I need to re-do them so they’re generically explaining the material and not talking about anything specific from other terms. It’ll be a lot of work but once it’s done, it’s a set it and forget it kind of thing going forward.
- I showed my class this youtube video about the themes of brotherhood, fatherhood, and kingship in the Lord of the Rings and I remembered that we have a plan to watch all 3 movies over the break. It’s been a while since we have watched them!
- I’ve been trying to go back to having more keto meals and last night I made stuffed peppers without rice. It’s going to take some time to get my body back to being accustomed to fewer carbs but I’ll do it!
- I’m super ready for Christmas break. One more day this week then next week are midterms. Kids have half days but apparently we do not. Which, I guess, is good so we can get grading done. But I know that nagging ‘want to go home’ feeling will creep in as the week goes on.
- The aforementioned security guy and I got to talking when I was out taking a walk and he seems like a good guy.
- We have many more things to do in the house tonight but man, I have the worst headache! Hopefully it’ll go away soon and I can press on.
Thursday Thirteen is a great post concept. Maybe some day I’ll join in! You don’t link up with anyone, do you? I have a comment about online classes — yes, please make it generic! We’ve had a few of our syllabi (is that how you say syllabus . . .in a plural form?) show information for in person class, etc. or refer to something that has to be done in class and it just causes confusion. I hope y’all have fun at your party!!
So, I used to link for Thursday 13 and I believe there was a new one but I always forget. And yes, I am going to be generic because I know it makes things easier!
I hope your headache goes away soon! It´s interesting to be in a full time-esque position at a school right now. Everyone is so anxious for the break as am I, though truthfully this long term sub gig has been really good. We may get a snow day tomorrow- everyone was talking about it at school- we shall see. Anyway, back to you, the gifts you got for your person at school sound good. I hope you´ve met a lot of people whom you like at the school :).
It sounds like you did a good job with your Secret Santa gifts. I am very much out of the loop with current films and I guess need to see some, maybe in January. We’re all about holiday viewing right now. Hope that headache went away and you have a nice weekend!
