Hello Monday – Time change edition

Y’all can talk about how you “gained” an hour all you like but as far as I am concerned, this one is no fun. Sure, 7 am won’t be pitch black but it’s currently 5:14 am and my alarm goes off at 6!

Anyway, Friday at school went well. Kids enjoyed their Halloween-related projects and the day was basically over before I knew it. I needed to pick up a gift card and an envelope on my way home and once again, the store that is closest to my house on my way to the house didn’t have something – the envelope. Last week they didn’t have any rotisserie chickens ready, which was the third time in a few weeks! I was a bit of a Karen and complained, though it didn’t matter; managers appear useless. Anyway, went to the other one nearby and at least they had that but when I saw the surcharge for Visa gift cards – 8 bucks! – I decided I didn’t need it after all. Besides, it was for my daughter to buy snacks; she was going to a Halloween event where they couldn’t use cash. Oh well!

When I got home I had about 45 minutes to change and get the kids’ pictures before they all went off to their respective trick or treating things. Isaac’s new girlfriend arrived and we met the mom, who seems super nice. She was even wearing a dirndl costume and we talked about Munich because she was just there this summer. Things in common! Once we got everyone to their things, Ash and I went to a friend’s house and passed out candy in his driveway until about 9. That was nice; they had a decent number of people in that neighborhood. I don’t recall if we did anything afterwards; it had been a long day!

Saturday I woke bright and early to begin packing up for a brew day. Our club has often hosted group brewing parties where – typically – at least 2-4 people bring their equipment and brew together. We had not had but one other this year so this one had been on the books a while, since a new-ish member offered to host. Getting out of the house was not without strife but Ash and I managed to pull it together and get there shortly before 10. Sadly, we were basically the only people. One guy was supposed to come but his neighborhood had a water main break and it just never happened. A couple guys showed up to say hi but then left, then later, a couple guys showed up but we were already done. Oh well. Easier for us, I guess.

Sunday, I of course woke up at 5:30, since my normal non-alarm brain likes 6:30. That’s ok though because I enjoy the quiet time before things have to get done. I sipped my coffee and sat under a blanket and just chilled. But then I got laundry going and tidied up. I got a 2.5 mile run in and some Halloween decor put away. I went to the store but since my daughter has been slightly ill, she was only having soup, Isaac wanted chips and salsa, Elliot was at work, and Ash wanted a homemade pizza. It was a choose-your-own-adventure kind of day, I guess. I made a lasagna for today at the same time, then by the time it was football kickoff, I was just sitting down! Well, laundry goes on throughout the day but still. Only our typical friend came to watch football but we had fun. I wasn’t hungry earlier in the day but later on, oh was I ever. My mom had left some Trader Joe’s potstickers in the freezer and man, those were good! Though kind of upset my stomach later on; boooo.

Anyway, a nice all-around weekend. I am happy to report that we don’t have a ton of plans coming up so we can work on things here; the deck project is still going on, uncovering concrete underneath. It’s not everywhere but it is there and we can work with it. I’ve been enjoying push-brooming the years of dirt to find it underneath. LOL. Anyway, I am going to do some work work before it’s time to get started on getting ready for, well, work! Pictures below. Have a good week!

  1. The kids looked great- hope they had a blast! I get so annoyed when my store is out of rotisserie chickens or they are not ready by 10am! Such a pain to cook my own

  2. It looks like Halloween went well except the price for the Visa card- so annoying. I would have balked at that, too. The kids look cute in their costumes. That’s cool that you met your son’s girlfriend’s mom and she was nice and you had things in common with her like visiting Germany. It’s great when you find those connections- it’s so much easier to make small talk :). We had a heavy work weekend and still need to do more. It was wonderful to get as much done as we did. Have a great Monday!

  3. I love the kids in costume. I know it’s a first world problem for sure, but having to go to more than one store for just one or two things is super annoying. I’m glad you met mom and had things in common. That always helps. Good luck with your deck project and have a nice week!

  4. Looks like a nice weekend, kids look cute!

People complain about how shoppers don’t shop local stores and instead buy things online, but that’s so much better than going to a store only to find they don’t have the thing(s) you went there for.
