Friday Five – Halloween edition

  1. Happy Halloween! I’ll try to show y’all a photo next week but earlier this week, I was approached by one of my new friends here at work and she asked if I wanted to be in a Little Red Riding Hood ensemble costume. I am the hunts(wo)man, while others are the wolf, grandma, and Hood, respectively. I found a decent flannel at the Goodwill and unearthed a kids’ Nerf axe. I completed my look with jeans and boots and a beanie. Should make for a good photo for the yearbook anyway!
  2. Last night, we had an EC meeting for brew club and in that, ended up having plans tonight, even though my others had fallen through. After my oldest leaves to trick or treat with his girlfriend, and after my daughter leaves to go on a whole Halloween adventure with her youth group, and AFTER my middle leaves with his new girlfriend (don’t get me started!)…THEN Ash and I are meeting up with a friend and hang out in his driveway to pass out candy. Should be fun but it is also COLD today! It was 40 this morning and while I typically turn the heat on by now, to keep the house around 70, I have not yet and it was 67 inside!
  3. I can’t believe how quickly October went. We got back on the 3rd and this month just flew by. I mean, I am not really complaining, since I am looking forward to days off in November and I can ALMOST see the light at the end of the tunnel for this semester.
  4. OK, per #2, you got me started. I already knew my middle child had been talking to a girl – because my oldest and youngest are good little spies (lol). But he hadn’t really told me. Elliot reported back that Isaac had plans to tell us soon, so we just waited. It’s only been about a month anyway. But he couldn’t keep it under wraps any more because last night, we asked who he was going out with tonight and when he hesitated, we both asked, “Your girlfriend, right?” And at least that was an easy way to break into the conversation. He said the mom was going to text me about their plans tonight and she did, which I appreciate. Elliot’s girlfriend’s parents are in denial she even has a boyfriend so we have yet to meet them. So yes, they’re picking him up, I will meet them mom, and they’re apparently trick or treating with the mom’s boyfriend and his three kids. These new things we do as the kids get older!
  5. All my classes today are doing Halloween-related coloring/ creative projects so it should be a quick and easy day. Hope everyone has a nice holiday weekend!

  1. Hasn’t your oldest been dating his girlfriend for a while now? And her parents are in denial that she has a boyfriend? Oh my, that just makes me sad. Like, yeah, part of you thinks your kids are going to be your babies forever but the rational part knows that isn’t how life works and everyone gets older and many find a SO and that is just how things are. I hope everyone’s plans go well tonight and this weekend! Your costume for the school group sounds cute- the huntswoman- love it!!

  2. A group costume is fun! I like the theme too. Ah the girlfriend. It’s all new territory. I have a friend who’s daughter is getting married in July and the groom’s mom only recently agreed to dinner with the parents all together. She’s in complete denial. It’s crazy! Plus the ‘kids’ are in their 30’s lol. Hope everyone has fun this weekend!
