Monthly Musings – Spooky October

  1. The only ones I can think of having to do with putting up the front yard cemetery (something the kids loved to help with) and going to the same pumpkin patch for photos. I will post pics below.
  2. I never really had any special treats I made but they are always so fun! One time for my son’s – I think – 4th grade class, I made spooky trees out of pretzel sticks.
  3. For many years, we got together with other families and did a meal before, sometimes games, then a trailer around a neighborhood. This year (and last) the kids have their own plans but we still met up with friends and walked around their area, since more people participate over there. I hear now though, that our plans may be cancelled because people are sick. Booooo.
  4. We used to carve pumpkins but I always hate how they turn out and it hurts my hands.
  5. Fave Halloween candy? I like the Brachs candy corn medley, with the little pumpkins.
  6. I don’t give out stuff because we don’t get many kids; our house is a. on a busy-ish road and b. kind of far from the street.
  7. Fun sized, though sometimes that leads to eating even more!
  8. As in, one I have been? I am fond of the year I was princess Leia. Photo below.
  9. I like to watch Nightmare Before Christmas and Rocky Horror.
  10. Around here, you see kids out as early at 5 and as late as maybe 9-10.

  1. So there are no set trick or treat hours? Kids just come by whenever? That is not how it’s done here! Your tradition when the kids were younger sounds like fun- eating together before trick or treating. Here, since it starts at 6:00 pm, it’s less common to get together to eat before but the neighborhood kids always went trick or treating together. The parents made the kids come out by 5:50 for group photos and to be ready right at 6:00 pm! Your traditions look like fun, too. Great pics!

  2. I love the Star Wars costumes. I like the trend of family costumes with younger kids. Fun for the parents too. You have some good pictures. Happy Halloween!
