Wednesday ‘Podge – The “almost Halloween” edition

1. Are you a risk taker? To what degree?

As they say, no risk, no reward, but I am not THAT risky. I mean, it depends on what you mean. For example, last night I went to Goodwill with my daughter. She was perusing the aisles near the dressing rooms and I was in said dressing room. It was a slight risk to leave a 12 year old unattended. At the same time, the chance of a weirdo abducting her is slim. But still a risk. Maybe I should not have risked something as precious as my own child’s life, but I also felt safe. I don’t take a lot of other risks, such as financial.

2. What’s your favorite candy? Would you say you have a sweet tooth?

I’m not sure I have a favorite candy, though I have some I really DON’T like, such as green Jolly Ranchers (gag!). I will eat a Butterfinger or Twix over, say, a Snickers or Mars or any basic Hersheys. I am not huge on hard candy but those little hard rootbeer flavored candies I like.

I would say my sweet tooth comes and goes. Something I learned when we were doing keto is the more you eat of X the more you like/crave it and vise versa. We ate a lot of veggies and wanted them and when I wasn’t eating any sweets, I didn’t need them.

4. What do you think is the most effective way to make a positive change in the world?

I think at the local and individual level; be good to people, do nice and helpful things for your community. Those kinds of things go far in peoples’ minds and then those people may go on to do other good things.

5. Do you like surprises?

Yes and no. Depends on whether it scares me or not. No one likes a surprise bill!

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Went out to eat with a couple friends last night and ended up being out from about 5:30-9! Normally we’re done within an hour to two. But seeing as how all our kids are growing up so much (and one woman’s youngest just broke up with her boyfriend of 2 years) we had a lot to talk about. It was nice though because as said children have gotten older, I find we don’t hang out as much anymore, just because there aren’t as many shared activities. Ash and I have a lot of other friend groups and they aren’t in them. But again, nice to get out and associate with other moms.

  1. Yep, I think “surprise” has to be more clear here. A surprise bill = no! A surprise $20 in a jean pocket = yes!

Sounds like a nice time with the friend group. I realize I don’t socialize with other moms like I did before our kids were grown. Another season gone, I guess.

  2. I had a big surprise car bill last week, not my favorite kind of surprise for sure. I’m glad you had a fun night out. Most of us in the HP are on the same page when it comes to changing the world. Do your little bit in your part of the world and there will be a trickle down effect. You’re a teacher too, which I think allows you to impact the world for good. Have a great day!

  3. Agree about the more you eat of something, the more you want it and vice versa! I’m post a week sugar free and I honestly don’t feel like I want it much. Sure it would taste good but I’m not craving it. Your dinner out sounds nice- I find that the older the kids get, there’s almost more to talk about with the other parents but at the same time, you don’t want to give personal information out that your kids wouldn’t want others knowing about.

  4. Surprise bills are not fun. Now, a surprise check in the mail? That might be okay. But can’t remember the last time that happened??
