Friday Five – Morning Musings

  1. Oh Lordy. It’s been a week! Generally speaking, I have recovered from my bike accident on Tuesday. Still a bit of a bruise on my backside but the scrapes are healing. I went and put regular pedals on the road bike and spent some time – 7 miles – on it on neighborhood roads yesterday. I’m feeling confident on it now so I’ll try it for 20 tomorrow, then 45 on Sunday.
  2. Last night was kind of nice; I made a really good meal – pan-seared chicken, mashed potatoes, and southern green beans – then I played Guitar Hero for a bit, then Ash and I bowled. Our oldest even joined in. He’s either working or seeing his girlfriend most of the time so it was nice to see him and spend some quality time.
  3. He woke up early today – compared to the 10 am time he’s been hitting all this week! – and went to get bagels for everyone. I’m not sure what changed but that was super nice of him.
  4. I’m procrastinating some yard work today. I want to do it but at the same time, it is humid out there. I may weed the front walk instead of hedge. I know once I get out there and finish it I will feel accomplished and probably motivated to do more.
  5. Tomorrow, after we ride in the AM, we have a graduation/birthday party for my friend’s son. She and I were pregnant at the same time, 18 years ago! I’ll never forget: my husband joined a flag football team with her husband and a couple others in this “dinner club” we had. One couple has since moved, two have gotten divorced, then Courtney, Tiffanie, and myself are still married and still hang out. So anyway, I didn’t know Courtney very well but we were both at a game, supporting our husbands, and she just started chatting with me and said she felt so tired because she’d just found out she was pregnant. One month later, so was I! I also remember how the dinner club rented a stretch limo to go to dinner and out for karaoke and she and I couldn’t drink because of being pregnant. It should be a good time. We just went to the beach with this group and we’ll be at their house, swimming and whatnot. Nice way to spend a Summer Saturday!

  1. I’m so glad you are on the mend after your bike accident. Those long standing friendships are special. I went outside at 9:00 a.m. and had already showered for the day . . .and within 5 minutes, I was sweating. I was thinking to myself that all I did was walk through the screened porch, through the garage, and 20 more steps to the alley to drag the trashcan back and I was sweating. My thought was, “how do you know it is summertime in Alabama?” No matter the time of day . . .if you step outside . . .you will be sweating haha!

  2. I read about your bicycle incident in the Tuesday post. Scary! I’ve noticed that very same thing going through roundabouts. I don’t know if cars generally don’t see bicyclists coming from the left, but I have been almost hit SO many times in similar incidences in roundabouts. You did the right thing, taking it to the shrubs. Glad it wasn’t worse.
