Wednesday ‘Podge -Rainy day here

1. Many of our earliest presidents created words or expressions widely used today. Teddy Roosevelt is credited with mollycoddle, pack rat, frazzle, and loose cannon…which of those words/phrases currently relates to your life in some way?

Hmm, I guess frazzle. In January, I had a good grip on all my courses and was well aware of what was going on. Recently, I find I’m forgetting stuff and I need to start making more lists. I’m seemingly very confused.

2. Have you visited many (or any) of the US Presidents homes, monuments, libraries or related sites? If so what’s been your favorite? Are there any you particularly want to see? Here’s a link to presidential sites listed by state which is kind of fun to read-Presidential Places by State. And since several bloggers who participate in the HP each week live outside the US, here’s a link to Presidential Places Outside the US. Have you seen any of those?

OK so, I have definitely been to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. In DC I have been to about 6 or 7 sites, though I was young when I went. My middle boy went last year and I know he probably saw a lot of those. I guess if I had to pick ones I’d want to see, I’d go with the JFK statue in Fort Worth. We were there a couple years ago but didn’t go there.

3. February 20th is National Cherry Pie Day…will you celebrate? Given your choice of cherry pie, cherry cobbler, cheesecake with a cherry topping, or black forest cake which would you choose?

I highly doubt I’ll be eating any pie, though it sounds good! Of those, black forest cake, then cheesecake. I am actually not fond of pie crust type pies. I’m more of the yogurt and cool whip pie person.

4. Last time you worked a puzzle of some kind? Something that had you puzzled recently?

My mom bought the kids an advent calendar that was a puzzle. They got a small box a day and it all went together to form one big Santa photo. Pretty neat. Something that is actually currently puzzling me is how people loved The Brutalist. I really enjoyed the first half but then the story went off the rails. I actually didn’t believe quite a few characterizations and saw a lot of plot holes that drove me batty.

5. Of the early blooming flowers (January-early March depending on your zone) which one’s your favorite?

I’m foregoing the list because I already know – Camellias. We have a ton here in North Florida. The Magnolias are gorgeous too but we don’t have one in the yard, thankfully. They’re pretty but make a mess. I would show you a pic of my camellia but it’s currently pouring rain.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Morning rain is the worst. It makes me worry for my kids driving to school and it messes up waiting for the bus. I’d already told my daughter I’d take her to school because she has a poster board project to take so I guess it works out. This back and forth weather has promoted much drainage and I woke up with a sore throat. It’s better now that I’ve had my coffee but still sort of lingering. Luckily, I didn’t plan to lecture much today. I’m going to have my students get into groups and try to sell a product using as many Logical Fallacies as possible. I hope they’ll have some fun with it. I lectured the entirety of Monday’s classes so this way, they don’t have to hear me drone on. LOL.

  1. Good luck, I always find lists help me feel less frazzled.
The advent calendar which was a puzzle sounds great!
Until this week we have had a lot of rain, it is especially no fun in the morning when there’s buses to wait for.

  2. That lesson sounds fun, but I have a hard time believing you’re not an interesting droner!! We were once kinda close to the Kennedy Space Center when we were in Florida and I wanted to see it. However, the beach lovers did not want to leave the ocean/beach (which is how it always is though sometimes I prevail and make us leave the beach!!)

  3. Your student activity sounds like it could be fun!! As I’m reading other posts, I’m realizing I have been to more Presidential sites than I originally thought! I’ve been to Kennedy Space Center but it was when I was about 19 years old and I had totally forgotten it until I read your post!!

  4. My head has been the same way for a couple of weeks. I bought Mucinex this week and honestly felt better almost immediately. I’ve been to the Johnson Space Center but not Kennedy, although my hubs has. We have camelias and I feel like they’re always blooming. I love them too! Good luck with your list making. We’ve had so much rain here too and it makes me a little bit lazy.

  5. I chose the word Frazzled too, I don’t know where I would be without lists.

Camelias are beautiful, I recently discovered some on my morning dog walk. I didn’t know we had them here in the UK they must be a very hardy plant.

  6. hmm…My comment couldn’t post so let’s try again. I hope you are feeling more “together” when it comes to your answer to #1. Sometimes I think we have so much going on…I have to set alarms often so I don’t forget things and make notes. The other day I was going to text my husband something and thought I’d wait til later and just talk to him. Well, I didn’t write it down and forgot by the time he got home.
