Hello Monday – Busy-ish

I’m happy to be in my warm office because it got cold again. Booo!

Anyway, weekend. Friday morning I got some things done and then Ash and I went to lunch, which was very good. Our plan was to then go to Deep for a flight and then drink at the house. Sadly, the beer was just ok so we headed home but on the way back, I get a call from my child who – AGAIN – killed my car’s battery. Moron was skipping the 6th period pep rally by sitting in the parking lot and he had the key turned but had not cranked the vehicle. I blame myself, really. Maybe we didn’t teach him this or explain it clearly enough? ANYWAY, I told him to get on the State Farm app and request roadside assistance.

Unfortunately, as has been the trend these past couple weeks, every time he does something like this, he’s combative and rude. I was walking around outside the pool while arguing with him and I tripped on a spring that holds the pool cover down and fell, breaking my phone screen. Ugh. I have never cracked a screen… and I have owned a cell phone since 1998. So yeah, it was a rather rough afternoon and not very fun. They did get the car jumped and headed home, though that didn’t allow my son any time to eat before work. Oh well; plan better.

We had tickets to the new Captain America at 4 so at least once the car issue was resolved we could go have fun… not. That movie was awful! Sigh. On the way home, I decided I wanted mozzarella sticks, which I legit never eat. We did a quick search online to see where to get them, got a suggestion for a local pizza place, and we went. Guess what? They do not, in fact, have mozzarella sticks. So I had poutine instead, which was good but not true poutine. The funny part is I couldn’t understand why places were so crowded then I remembered that it was actually Valentine’s Day. We never celebrate it so I was unaware; lol.

Saturday, Ash woke up not feeling great; sore throat, general tiredness. I got right on top of a little bit of work, then took Isaac to work. After there, I took the car to an auto parts place to get the battery tested. Apparently it’s at 100% so my son really just drained the crap out of it that day. Sigh. I took the small bit of time I had before my daughter’s soccer game to hit the grocery store, where I nearly had a heart attack. The drive is a mere two minutes and on a curve almost to said store, I looked up into my rearview mirror to see a cop coming for me, lights flashing. Oh crap, they finally got me, I thought. Though, I wasn’t really speeding. Maybe 37 in a 30? It does have a 25 mph sign for the curve but I look at that as more of a suggestion. I slowed down, started planning which business I would turn into, but then this guy blew right by me. Whew! My heart was a-pounding, let me tell you!

Dakota had her second to last game and for once, just enough kids showed up that we didn’t need to get kids from other teams to help out. AND they finally won a game on their own! This has been an exceptionally dysfunctional group of kids, mostly because they just don’t show up. I don’t know who signs their kid up for a season of city soccer then never attends. Like, what a waste.

Was so glad to see them finally work together. We headed home for Ash to rest. I made some lunch then took Dakota up to school for a band event. Ash and I watched The Man Who Fell to Earth, which I was familiar with but had not seen. It’s… not very good. And quite confusing. And also, Bowie was an odd duck. LOL. I knew of this movie’s connection to his Ziggy Stardust character but not much else. Throughout my attempt to watch this movie, I was interrupted once by needing to take some money to my daughter up at the school, Elliot coming home from a friend’s then turning around and going to work, picking up my son at 4 and my daughter at 5:30. But we managed to get through it.

That evening we watch the French movie, The Beast, which was another insanely confusing and not particularly good movie. Two in one day! The evening ended with my son rushing home and being angry about food. I don’t know what prompted it but we argued and all went to bed. Ugh! This kid is killing me.

Sunday, Ash felt a little better but we eased into the day. I started laundry, rode 10 miles on the indoor cycle, made burgers. At 3:30 we had a virtual whisky tasting, which was pretty fun. We then made a fire and Ash and I sat outside for a while. Nice way to end the weekend!

  1. I cannot image that I’ve told any of the kids about having the key in the ignition draining the battery. There are many things they have to learn the hard way- it’s impossible for parents to relay everything!! We need to concentrate on the most important things… That’s too bad about the CA movie. The previews looked pretty bad to me but I am not a fan of that genre at all so I’d likely see none of them if it were up to me! Glad your daughter’s soccer team won and that you had a good day on Sunday. Hope your Monday is going well!

  2. I’m glad the weekend ended on a high note. I’ve been watching mostly kid flix then plopping in to bed when they do lol. I think your son’s behavior is somewhat typical for his age. Kids do tend to come around as they get just a bit older, gain some wisdom, and realize adulting is hard and their parents were right about a lot of things. Have a nice week!
