Wednesday ‘ Podge – I’m not a Valentine’s fan

1. Did you watch the Super Bowl? Did your team win? What’s your favorite game day snack for  whatever sport is happening?

Yes and I guess yes? While I am a big NFL fan, I don’t have a team I support. These days, it truly is anyone playing the Chiefs! I am fond of snacks like cream cheese and pepper jelly and jalapeno poppers. Someone brough this dish Sunday that was a slice of sausage with some kind of pimento cheese and a slice of jalapeno on top. It was good!

2. What’s your ‘superpower’?

Knowing where the lost things are. For the most part, if someone in this house says, “Do you know where X is?” I will know without a shadow of a doubt or be 95% sure.

3. Will you do anything special on Valentine’s Day? If so do share. Any thoughts on/about this particular holiday? Share a favorite verse or quote relating to love.

I know it’s a very negative attitude to have but I don’t care for the holiday. We have plans to go to lunch together, as we normally do on Fridays, and we are seeing the new Captain America. But for the most part, it is not a special day; just because Hallmark banks on people who like it, doesn’t mean I have to participate. I am so glad my kids are all out of elementary school so we don’t have to buy stupid valentines for every kid in class. I can’t think of any quotes about love; sorry!

4. Are you a fan of the rom-com genre? If so what’s one of your favorites? If you’re not a movie go-er then what about a book you love that features a great love story? How about a favorite love song?

SO, I like movies with romance but I can’t say I am necessarily a “rom-com fan.” Some of my favorite love stories are An Affair to Remember, The American President, and Groundhog Day. Maybe the last two aren’t considered as such but those always hit me. And as love songs go, I am all about anything by Sinatra or Billie Holiday. Here’s a few:

5. Let’s get creative…write an acrostic using the word L-O-V-E.

L is for Loyalty, which ties you together

O is for Only that person

V is for values, common that you share

E is for enduring

6. Insert your own random thought here.

We’re doing real good on our better eating and no weekday drinking. Also, keeping up the walking. I was EXHAUSTED Monday; just sort of a bone-deep tired that made me not want to do anything. But we still do 2 miles. Yesterday we walked about 2.5. Today, I’m not sure what we’re planning. Tomorrow it’s supposed to storm so I’ll do my indoor cycle. I did five miles today because RAGBRAI training has actually started. There’s a plan we’ll follow and the first few weeks are so easy we could get away with only doing it indoors. I have to pick up a road bike soon; have a friend who is willing to loan me hers, since she’s not currently riding. I need to make the time to go get it though.

I am looking forward to being done with teaching today. I feel like I’m a little off my game this week with it but I know once I tackle my two classes head on today, it’ll be good. I actually made a kahoot for them to do. It seems sort of…elementary, but I want to switch it up and make it fun. We’ll see how it goes!

  1. Your super power is a really good one. I don’t have it but my husband does so it’s the same effect! (So long as he’s around to ask!) I am with you on not caring for rom-coms too much. And it’s funny that you’re into the NFL without being a big fan of a particular team. Here many people are big fans of the Bengals, the Browns while the Steelers seem to be the next popular.

    1. Well, when you’re big into fantasy football, you care about players but not necessarily teams. I am sure some people have one but I don’t like to be too indebted to one team.

  2. I had to look up kahoot. Hope your students enjoyed the injection of fun into their learning. I forgot about An Affair to Remember-that’s a good one! We watched Groundhog Day recently (Feb 2) and I still think it’s such a cute premise for a movie. Enjoy your week!
