Hello Monday, it’s cold!

Well, I guess this storm is a-coming for us too. It’s 30, feels like 23 right now. Sunny now but tomorrow night, we get an ice storm with potential snow. They already canceled school on Wednesday. I hope the colleges close too because I do not want to drive across town on icy roads. Floridians are not prepared for that!

Anyway, weekend. I want to say I remember what we did but it’s vague. I think it was Thursday we watched Blue Velvet, which is definitely one of the craziest movies I’ve ever seen. Friday, Ash took off work; I graded papers in the morning then we went to lunch with a couple of his friends. We worked to fix an issue with the shower handles in the kids’ bathroom. I prepped the garage door to get painted.

Saturday was very up in the air; the forecast said rain all day but it held off. Isaac went to work at 9 and it wasn’t really very cold. Dakota’s game wasn’t until 12:45 so I ran errands and worked around the house; we watched Premier League. Got to her game and they managed to play about half before this insanely dark cloud rolled in and then it POURED. The most torrential rain I can recall. They called all games, it was a mad dash to leave the fields. But as quickly as it started, it was over. Might have been 10 minutes of rain. Oh well. My oldest stayed home and decided he’d go for a run…at the exact time it rained. LOL. He got a bit wet but at least he got out.

Came home and made this recipe, which turned out pretty good. The kids all liked it. Ash didn’t try it but he’s picky. The kids said he’d probably like it though and I agree. It was good cold weather comfort food. We watched a bit of football that night and that’s about it.

On Sunday I got right up and started on laundry and whatnot. We had tacos and guac for lunch and then I started actually painting the door. It’s amazing what a coat of door paint can do to a basic interior wood door. Ash had an old friend come over to watch football and while I feel like it was a nice thing to do for a guy who doesn’t get out much, he stayed way too long. I’m talking 3:30-9:30. Oh well. I can be tolerant…sometimes.

I feel both content and irritated today/lately. Could be the cold. Could be just general middle-age. But I do think the weekend was nice; restorative. Today, I told my daughter’s friend’s mom I’d take them to the skating rink. They’ve taken her a few times and her friend just had a birthday so I thought it would be nice. Of course, that was a few weeks ago and now I really would prefer not to. We’re going from 12-2 and I didn’t realize inauguration coverage started at noon. Oh well. Maybe they have wi-fi. I have to stay with them so I might just watch it on my laptop. Anyway, we’ll see how the storm pans out and all; pretty high chance classes get canceled so I have already begun prepping lectures in that event. Look at me all getting ahead…

  1. Happy Monday! You got this! I do know how you feel- one MLK Jr day I signed up to help at one of my kid’s sport teams events that I didn’t even need to because we already had our mandatory volunteer (kind of an oxymoron but…) hours in. And then the day came and I was irritated at myself for signing up for it! But the ice skating will be nice because you will be with your daughter (though not skating) and doing something nice for the friend. I hope you guys don’t get a storm and if you do, that you don’t have to go out in it.
