Hello Monday – Been a minute

I started a Friday post, pretty sure, but then I just straight ran out of time! Ash and I were in full-on party prep mode. We went out to get last minute supplies then lunch and it was during that time I got “the call” from the middle school. Koda wasn’t feeling well and was in the clinic. I went to pick her up and they tried to tell me she had a fever but I never registered one once we got home. I took it a few times. She was definitely suffering from the cough that is going around right now. I tucked her into bed and let her sleep and it seemed to help.

That evening, we watched Christmas with the Kranks, which is probably in my top 5 for holiday movies, and then the Muppet Christmas Carol, which I had honestly never seen. I know some people see it as sacrilege. I didn’t much care for it. Oh well.

The next morning was “put everything in its place and wait”. Folks began showing up slightly before one, since we always do a little beer bottle share before. Then the bulk of folks arrived by 2. We went a different route this year: instead of having it on a Friday night and having people bring side dishes, we moved it to Saturday at 2 and asked for snacks and we played games.

I’d say it was a success. We had about 60 people, as opposed to most years when we get between 80-100. But for the purpose of games, that made it a bit easier to manage. My oldest’s godmother was able to see him (he got home from work before she had to go) so that was nice. She always comes over around Christmas bearing gifts for all the kids. Isaac’s two friends spent the night because afterwards, we were too tired to say no. LOL. Funny thing is, people were gone by 8:30ish. I did enjoy that part.

I woke up Sunday not feeling hungover from drink, but simply from activity. Ash and I always over-do it on getting ready then have this massive sigh of relief after. I cleaned up and started laundry, ran an errand, then got some pizza. One of Ash’s friends who had come into town for the party stopped by for a little bit. But for the most part, I did nothing. In fact, I just felt exceedingly tired. I blame party prep and the full moon. The kids all came down around 7:30 to watch Home Alone and I slept through most of it.

Feeling much better today; motivated. I need to make a list of things to get done, truthfully. I know Ash wants to go Christmas shopping but if we are being honest, I don’t want to. For one, I can’t think of anything else anyone needs, which is frustrating in and of itself. Secondly, he likes to browse and I like to get in and get out. I make a plan for the thing I am looking for and I bail asap. I think I have mentally prepared enough though that I can make it through a day of his shopping antics. We’ll see!

One of my issues right now is the lack of work to do. As stated last week, I only have 2 online classes still going now and one will end after this week and the other, take a couple week break before picking back up. While it is nice to be “done”, it also makes me feel like I’m treading water. I keep having this thought in the back of my head: aren’t I supposed to be doing something for my class right now? It’s weird.

Today is a bit warmer than it has been and it’s gray and foggy out. This doesn’t help my mood much. My plan for the week is to catch up on house things and make a list of to-dos. Koda has soccer practice tomorrow, we have a brew club EC meeting Thursday, then a friend get-together Saturday. Looking forward to the kids being off school but ONLY because my senior cannot stand the last few days before a break and he’s driving me crazy. But give it a few days into the break and I’ll be begging for school to start again!

  1. Isn’t this two big parties in two weekends that you’ve thrown? That is amazing! So much work- I would be a huge ball of stress!! Great job- I can see how you were wiped out the next day. I would be wiped out for weeks, lol. Good luck Christmas shopping- I don’t mind browsing but not for long and not if the store is crowded :). Your last line reminds me of one of the lines from “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.”- “And moms and dads can hardly wait for school to start again!” I hope your Monday is a great one!

    1. Yes! We had our brew club party last weekend. It’s always a lot but we get through. I am still harboring some leftover stress and trying to let it go. And yes! I was channeling that song. It speaks to me a lot more now than it did when I was a kid.

  2. Your party has usually been between 80 to 100 people? I wouldn’t be able to fit that many on our property!

Glad it was a success. It looks like nice weather.

  3. We just watched Christmas With The Kranks last week for the first time. Somehow we’d missed that one and it was cute. We do a lot of hosting here too and it’s a love hate thing lol. I always need a week to recover and am sure you were worn out. We love the getting ready, set up, the event itself, but afterwards I just want it all to magically be put back in order. Looks like it all went well. I think parents everywhere are ready for the school break. I have one more thing to buy than shopping is done. I don’t love the shopping this time of year. I prefer to pick things up along the way, but ended up with a bit of a mad dash this year. Have a nice week!
