MMMM + Is September really over?

Wow, it IS the last day of September! Things are going fast, that’s for dang sure.

If you read my Friday post, Tallahassee got LUCKY; the storm didn’t hit us head on and we got the western side anyway. I feel awful for the folks in the states north of us, what with all the flooding. But I can’t help but be exceedingly grateful it didn’t destroy us here; we have too many trees for that.

Anywho, as reported Friday, we did go to Oktoberfests in town. I made burgers then Ash and I met another couple from Brew Club at Amicus. Tim and his wife also showed up, as well as another guy. We ran into our other friends there as well so when we moved onto Ology next, they followed. Another couple, their parents, and another of our girl-scout adjacent people also met us there. So all in all, a good time! I took terrible photos but here’s one:

It was Katie’s birthday (right side) so we were both celebrating that and the shared relief of not getting the storm too bad. Once we got home, which was not very late (6ish?) I was EXHAUSTED. Again, the combination of beer and the letting go of all the pent up stress and worry had me done. I normally sit in my chair or on the living room couch but I crawled straight up to bed.

Woke up Saturday morning and felt fine, mostly. Just sort of blah. Since Isaac’s soccer tournament had to be rescheduled, we were entirely free. We started some firepit work but realized we needed the adhesive and some other small items. I cleaned a little bit and we watched Premier League; we had a hodgepodge lunch of leftovers. I rested, mostly. Around 4, we got motivated and went to the hardware store for the fire pit stuff but it wasn’t in stock so instead, we did other things like run out the small amount of gas we’d added to the generator to test it, work on bicycles for Sunday, etc. I felt accomplished.

The night before, my daughter had spent the night at her friend’s house and the mom invited us over to hang by their firepit but I was not too keen since I was, you know, asleep. So for Saturday, she’d mentioned us going over there to watch the FSU game. I hate late games because then we’ll drink beer late but we had fun. I took some guacamole and chips and they had some other dips and made wings and fries. We had a nice time despite our team being absolutely horrible this season. I took zero photos of this night, of course.

Sunday morning was bike ride time and we chose the same route, but 25 miles. The unpaved portions were quite sandy and washed out in places so, super bumpy. It was a lot more difficult – I felt – than the week before. We both vowed to go back to the flatter path next week. We may even ride a section of 98, which runs along the coast. That should be a nice ride, I’d think. We look bad in this pic but we found a place called the owl farm, somewhere a few miles into Georgia.

The rest of Sunday, I was lazy! We ordered pizza and watched football; I did the laundry. But my legs were sore and I just felt beat. I sort of napped on and off throughout the evening. Of course then, I don’t sleep well at night.

It’s Monday so Ash and I are home together, as it is one of his telework days. We’re brewing a brown ale in preparation for our winter club party/in-club competition. Hope it’s good!

It’s a freebie week so here are two random songs that have made me tear up in the car lately.

  1. Ooh, I love Brooks and Dunn. Sounds like a fun weekend! There are a million cyclists in Cambridge and I feel like we’re always dodging them by foot (they get on the sidewalks) or by car (they tend to drive in the middle of the lane quite often instead of the bike lane). It’s challenging lol. I hope this next storm that’s brewing stays well out to sea!

    1. I vowed to write here this week because I listen to the music but I’m at work so I don’t always have a chance to read what your week was like. I know it’s busy but often fun. Glad you got together with others and enjoyed yourself plus, as per norm, being very active. I enjoyed the first sing but not much into country especially when there’s that nasally twang…lol

  2. Yes, September is over. The only good thing about Helene is that it prompted the Weather Channel to show (before the storm) drone footage of Tallahassee. I’ve never been to the panhandle and so I never realized what a beautiful city Tallahassee is. So many trees! (I assume what I saw was mainly live oaks). I’m glad you didn’t get hit and also had the chance to rest some this weekend. Enjoyed both songs. Alana ramblinwitham
